Fight Or Flight
The Rocinante crew deals with the fallout over Naomi’s betrayal while caught in the middle of the war between Earth and Mars. Avasarala and Bobbie hatch an escape plan.
Tropes:
- Adaptation Expansion: The show delves into what Errinwright was doing on Earth after he betrayed Avasarala on the Guanshiyin.
- As You Know: Sorrento-Gillis reminds Errinwright that he is the Secretary-General, and thus he's the one who gets to decide whether or not Earth should go to war.
- Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Just before Bobbie and Avasarala escape on the Razorback, Avasarala and Cotyar share a brief exchange making it clear that, in spite of their bickering, they do share some affection for one another.
- Booby Trap: The pilots set an electric trap at the entrance of the cockpit that incapacitates Bobbie for a short while. Fortunately, Cotyar shoots the pilots before they're able to shoot Avasarala.
- Broken Pedestal: In the aftermath of Naomi going against the rest of the crew's backs and giving the sample of the protomolecule to Fred Johnson, Amos stops looking up to her.
- Epic Tracking Shot: The season begins with the disassembled Arboghast on Venus, and then pans and zooms throughout the solar system to show the audience what each major political faction is up to.
- Mythology Gag: Alex contacts his family on Breach Candy, a location in Mars that appeared in the Expanse novella "Gods of Risk."
- Flashback: Prax has one about when he has the hybrid.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Avasarala's fear of space flight is brought up once again, when she expresses apprehension about needing to escape on the Razorback, which is basically a life raft (albeit a very speedy one).
