Salvage

The Rocinante crew goes looking for Lionel Polansky and finds something else entirely. Miller travels to Eros to find Julie Mao. Fred Johnson works to decrypt the Donnager's logs.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: Miller has finally found Julie Mao, but she's dead.
  • And This Is for...: When the Anubis is blown up Holden says, "Remember the Cant".
  • Big Damn Heroes: Miller rescues the Rocinante crew from Errinwright's hit squad, just when one of them is about to throw a hand grenade.
  • Bioluminescence Is Cool: Not in this case.
  • Canary in a Coal Mine: Lampshaded when Kenzo is sent on first into the Anubis.
  • Decontamination Chamber: After what they find on the Anubis, everyone makes sure to get hosed down in the airlock before getting back on board the Rocinante.
  • Energy Absorption: The protomolecule on the Anubis feeds on energy, as Naomi discovers upon turning the ship's reactors back on.
  • The Farmer and the Viper: Kenzo betrays Holden to the Earthers as soon as they get to Eros, just as Amos predicted he would.
  • Foreshadowing: Once the UN TAC Team is assembled to assassinate Holden, Kenzo is notified that the police will not intervene.
  • Friend on the Force: Fortunately, Miller has an old friend working for the local police to get him out of jail. It turns out that Miller's hat used to belong to this friend.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Turns out that "Lionel Polansky" is actually a pseudonym for Julie Mao.
  • Ghost Ship: The Anubis.
  • Leap of Faith: The Mormon's regard their mission to settle a planet in another solar system as this, because no-one can know for sure if the planet is truly habitable until they get there.
  • Make It Look Like an Accident: The hit squad sent to kill Holden is instructed to make it look like random street violence.
  • Oh, Crap!: Holden realizes that the power in Julie's room has been turned off, just as on the Anubis. Apparently the protomolecule made it off the ship with her...
  • Posthumous Character: With the discovery of Julie Mao's body in the show on Eros, she becomes one of these.
  • Sherlock Scan: Amos notices and prepares for the gunfight before the others due to this. Kenzo's nervous behavior didn't hurt.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Amos's issues with the pronunciation of "Anubis" are similar to Miller's from a few episodes ago.
  • Trenchcoat Warfare: The hooker and client pass his inspection, but Amos' suspicions are first aroused when two men in long coats enter the lobby. Sure enough, they're packing more than handguns.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: The Rocinante crew seem to have figured out how to work together, just in time to meet — and fail to get along with — Miller.
  • Working the Same Case: Miller and Holden are both led to Julie's hotel room, where they find her dead body.
  • Wretched Hive: Eros Station is a dump, its private police force are just another criminal gang, and it's got the highest murder rate per captia in the solar system.
