Tropes present in this episode:

  • Celebrity Star: See episode title to see what famous country music outlaw guest-starred as an old friend of the Duke family.
  • Cut-and-Paste Note: Boss Hogg gives the insurance agent a ransom note that he and Rosco made out of cut out newspaper print (though see Viewer-Friendly Interface below).
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Bo gets sidetracked from escaping to flirt with Billie Jo. Luke grabs him and bodily jerks him out of there.
  • Frame-Up: Boss decides to frame Bo and Luke for hijacking Waylon's traveling Museum. Waylon doesn't believe it for a moment, but the Insurance agent does. It helps that she isn't familiar with the characters in Hazzard.
  • Fruit Cart: Sy Cumming's Fruit Stand. Luke tosses the Tracking Device away in front of it, which leads to Rosco driving through the stand.
  • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: As Waylon explains to Billie Jo, in the backstory Waylon's guitar was stolen just before what turned out to be his big break. Jesse, a stranger at the time, gave Waylon enough money to buy a new guitar. He's been friends with the Dukes ever since.
  • Invisible Backup Band: When Waylon Jennings plays "Never Could Toe the Mark" at the Boar's Nest a full band can be heard, including a harmonica solo, despite Waylon being the only one on stage.
  • Ironic Echo: When Luke is forced by circumstance to climb out of the speeding General Lee in order to search for the Tracking Device that the insurance agent snuck onto the car, Bo tells him "I'd do it but I'm driving." This is an echo from Season 6's "High Flyin' Dukes" where Luke makes Bo climb out of the speeding General Lee to hitch a ride on a crop duster's emergency rope ladder in order to catch up with some bad guys and tells him the same thing.
  • The Main Characters Do Everything: Waylon Jennings' Traveling Country & Western Music Museum is being driven to Hazzard by Waylon himself in an 18-wheeler, no other staff. Slightly Subverted in that his rig is just a decoy, the real Museum is being driven somewhat behind him but also with only one driver and no other staff. Meanwhile Jesse, Daisy and Enos are the ones selling tickets for the Museum when it's scheduled to come to Hazzard.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Insurance agent Billie Jo thinks that the Duke boys stole Waylon's traveling museum. It doesn't help that, when she looks into them, she finds out they're on probation!
[after Billie Jo finds that Bo and Luke have tied up Rosco and Enos to get away]
Billie Joe: One crime after another.
Luke: Listen, we ain't got time to talk about it right now, but you're dead wrong about us, we're not as bad as you think.
    [later]
Bo: I still can't understand her turning on us like she did.
Luke: Well you gotta look at it like this - if you was in her place, you'd probably feel the same way about us.
  • Properly Paranoid: The Insurance agent insisted on using a decoy truck driven by Waylon Jennings just in case someone decided to hijack the museum. The Museum has been on tour for a while but this is the first time it paid off.
  • Theme Tune Extended: Notably absent. While lauding the script overall for this episode, some critics have wondered why Waylon Jennings didn't sing the "Theme From 'The Dukes of Hazzard' (Good Ol' Boys)" at the Boar's Nest (as part of the final Hazzard County Speed Trap running gag); rather, he sings his then-current song, "Never Could Toe the Mark," which is far less known today.
  • Tracking Device: Billie Jo hides a tracking device on the underside of the General's front bumper to follow Bo and Luke, being suspicious of them. Eventually they find and discard the bug, but in order to do so Luke climbs out of the car while they're being chased.
  • Unspoken Plan Guarantee: Used twice. In both instances the camera cuts to a different scene just as the plan is being explained.
    • Boss Hogg tells the real hijackers to loosen Bo and Luke's ropes so they can free themselves just as Rosco shows up with the Insurance agent, further framing them for the hijacking.
    • Luke's plan to find out what's really going on involves Daisy dressing up as a cleaning lady in Hazzard County's County Building so she can eavesdrop.
  • Viewer-Friendly Interface: The ransom note is in much bigger font that the newspapers used to create it were made in.
