The Ruthless sails into dangerous waters, with Finnegrin in hot pursuit. Queen Janai and her guards face a deadly infiltrator seeking the Sun Seed.

Tropes:

  • Absurdly High-Stakes Game: Apparently, Villads lost his ownership of the Ruthless to Nyx in a game of Craps.
  • Bear Hug: When Amaya returns to the camp, she gives her trusted lieutenant Gren a hearty hug that completely takes his breath away.
  • Call-Back: The Katolis guard who Rayla once overheard talking about his breakfast to a disinterested fellow guard returns, telling a similar food-related story to a much more captivated Sunfire Elf. Unfortunately the Moonshadow Elf who slips by them this time is far more malevolent.
  • Catch and Return: During her fight with the Sunfire Elves, the Bloodmoon Huntress catches an arrow and sends it back towards the archer.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Of all the people in Xadia, it's Nyx that Villads lost his ship to. This coincidence allows for two unrelated extras to rejoin the main cast in one go.
  • Dead Man's Switch: The knowledge of where the Sun Seed is hidden is Janai's life insurance after Kim'dael defeats her in combat.
  • Double-Meaning Title: "Sea Legs" is marine lingo for keeping a good balance on a wavering ship. It also refers to the reveal of Finnegrin's ship being a giant living hermit crab.
  • From Bad to Worse: As Villads summarizes when they catch sight of the Sea Legs in pursuit.
Villads: Vengeful pirate, certain death, and no jelly.
Berto: Argh! ( caws ) Rough day.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: The Sea Legs has one hidden in her lower hull that enables her to get over the deadly rocks that would have otherwise stopped her in her tracks.
  • Hallway Fight: Despite the Human and Sunfire Elves' best defense they are no match for the vile magic of the huntress when she slip past their barricade and attacks in a narrow hallway.
  • Head Pet: One of the baby Glowtoads earns the name "Hat" because of its inclination for sitting on peoples heads.
  • Heads or Tails?: Villads explains that Finnegrin used to flip a coin about the fate of his captives. Heads and they drown in the icy waters, tails and they wished it was heads.
  • Heroic BSoD: Learning that Janai was taken hostage by a dangerous attacker while she was away causes Amaya to shut down for a moment, devastated.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: As Rayla points out, Nyx has no room to tell Ezran, let alone anyone, not to steal things. She doesn’t argue.
Rayla: You are the last one who should be judging anyone about stealing, Nyx.
    Nyx: You know what? Fair.
  • If I Dont Return: Played for laughs when Soren is about to drown and tells the heroes to say "Hi" from him to Claudia.
  • Jealous Pet: Bait doesn't like sharing Ezran's attention with the three young Glow Toads.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Nyx and Callum prepare to save the baitling that went overboard but Soren can't wait and jumps headfirst into the water with his armor still on which puts him in danger of drowning.
  • Meaningful Name: Each of the rescued Glowtoads is named after the individual quirks they display. "Sneezles" because his nose is sensitive to sunlight, "Hat" because he loves to sit on people's heads, and "Jelly Bug" loves to eat the jam out of Jelly Tarts.
  • Narrative Profanity Filter: When Ezran wonders aloud what to call the little Glowtoads, Bait croaks a suggestion, which judging by Ezran's reaction was rather impolite.
Ezran: You don't have names, do you? What should we call you three?
    Bait: (Croak)
Ezran: (frowns disapprovingly) That's not very nice, Bait.
  • One-Man Army: Kim'dael, the Bloodmoon Huntress, effortlessly takes out all of Queen Janai's guards at the Sunfire Elves camp.
  • Power-Strain Blackout: Callum collapses after casting a spell that takes the wind from Finnegrin's sails. The effort renders him exhausted and powerless for the rest of the episode.
  • Stunned Silence: Everyone including Berto, Villads' parrot, is stunned upon seeing the Sea Legs coming alive. Without Berto's directions, Villads is unable to keep the Ruthless on course and the ship crashes into a rock.
  • Try and Follow: Subverted. When the heroes realize that Finnegrin is on their tails, they attempt to lose him in a thick fog and later steer the Ruthless into a dangerous area of tiled, jagged rocks called "Garlaath's Teeth". However, Finnegrin is able to follow them effortlessly thanks to his superior ship, which turns out to be alive.
  • Use Your Head: Janai headbutts Kim'dael during their fight scene which temporarily gives her the upper hand.
  • Villainous Face Hold: At the end, when Finnegrin has the heroes captured, he grabs Callum by the chin and announces that he has special use for him.
  • We Need a Distraction: Kim'dael drags a wounded guard with her to the fight against Janai. When Janai has her down on the ground and is about to deliver her final blow, Kim'dael makes the guard talk which distracts Janai enough for her opponent to slip away.
  • Who Are You?: Queen Janai asks this of the unknown female assassin coming for the Sun Seed. She gets no answer from her silent opponent.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Kim'dael is able to break Janai's sword into pieces which marks a turning point in their fight.
