Ezran convinces the group to look for an eccentric ocean mage with critical information. Karim calls in a debt. Claudia tries to communicate with Viren.

Tropes:

  • Actually, I Am Her: Archmage Akiyu initially pretends to be simply a guide until finally revealing herself to the heroes.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Akiyu plays her "death" very melodramatically, with only her pre-established eccentric personally helping to fool Ezran. She finally drops the charade when Ezran tells her that other people already know where the prison is.
  • Covered in Gunge: The heroes are covered in green vomit when the monster spits them out. Rayla even gets some of it in her mouth.
  • Cyanide Pill: Subverted. The "poison" that Akiyu drinks in what seems to be an attempt to die to hide the location of Aaravos' prison actually turns out to just a vitamin drink.
  • Deus Exit Machina: As a result of Zubeia's corrupted state, she's unable to return to bring the heroes to Aaravos' prison, leaving them to find another way to get there.
  • Doesn't Trust Those Guys: When Prince Karim of the Sunfire Elves is about to get involved with Bloodmoon Elves, Pharos warns him of seeking help from such ilk. The Bloodmoon Huntress who suddenly appears behind Pharos almost kills him for referring to her by that term.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Soren comes up with the idea to hide under huge sea shells after seeing a crab doing the same.
  • Ill-Timed Sneeze: While Claudia's group hides under tree branches from a scouting dragon, the Chrysalis Child can't help shouting "Blood of Child". The noise draws the dragon's attention but it would seem that the group gets away with it.
  • It May Help You on Your Quest: Archmage Akiyu hands Callum an Amulet of Concentrated Awesome which is certain to come in handy at some point later in the story.
  • Kidnapping Bird of Prey: A bird of prey snatches a giant snail from a rock right in front of the heroes.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: Tidebound Tina almost gives away her trap when she lures the heroes into the monster's throat.
"Just through the esopha—, I mean, corridor."
  • Loophole Abuse: Unintentional, but convenient. Akiyu vowed to keep the prison location with her life, no matter what it takes, or else the dragons might hunt her down. After learning from Ezran that someone else already has the information, she helps them immediately, rendering her vow null and void, no longer having to worry about the knowledge herself.
  • Lured into a Trap: Tidebound Tina lures the heroes into the stomach of a huge monster hoping to kill them this way.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: The wall creature Akiyu tries feeding the group to has large fanged teeth that clamp shut to keep them in its gut. Akiyu can be seen brushing them with a giant toothbrush in the credits.
  • Poor Communication Kills: On two fronts.
    • Zubeia's injury from the last episode starts to show signs of corruption, but the only ones aware of it are Soren and Zubeia herself who don't know about the corruptive effect of the creatures in Lux Aurea. And while Callum and Rayla could tell them, Zubeia elects to keep her wound a secret to avoid worrying the others.
    • When the heroes inform 'Tina' they are looking for Akiyu so she can tell them where Aaravos' prison is, she assumes they're trying to free the Startouch Elf, and attempts to kill them as a result. During her fake Cyanide Pill moment, Ezran tells her that they want to stop the ones trying to free him. She drops the act, berating them that they should have led with that, and finally helps them.
  • Pragmatic Hero: Concerned over Claudia's head start, Callum suggests going to the Starscraper immediately to retrieve the Novablade so they can use it against the fallen Startouch Elf when he is freed but Ezran disagrees, believing they should focus on preventing Aaravos' escape to limit any bloodshed, with the Novablade as a last resort. Rayla breaks the tie, which sets them on the path in search of Akiyu.
  • Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth: Zym's thunderbolts are too much to handle for the monster, so it spits the heroes back out.
  • You Know Too Much: Akiyu almost suffered this fate when she accidentally glimpsed one extra clue of Aaravos' prison too many, but she managed to talk her way out of it by vowing to take the prison's location to her grave.
  • You Owe Me: Karim is able to employ the Bloodmoon Huntress's services because his ancestor Queen Aditi once spared the Huntress's life and forced her into a mercy debt.
  • Zombie Infectee: Zubeia, who was bitten by a corrupted Banther in the previous episode, tries to hide her bite wound from the heroes (with only Soren aware that something's wrong, but he's unaware of the problem's actual nature) but has begun to corrupt further by the end of the episode with no one aware of her current state.
