At the summit of the five kingdoms, Viren fights to win the support of a young queen. Flashbacks reveal a key moment from King Harrow's reign.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Blatant Lies: Not only did Viren summon the other monarchs to the Pentarchy with the stolen Royal Seal, he also wrote to them that Ezran is on the throne, and Viren is now his mentor and regent until Ezran comes of age. To the viewers, it's just adding even more to the giant pile of bull droppings he's hiding under the rug.
  • Call-Back: Sarai calls the solution to use dark magic to save 100,000 lives a "short cut". The same term Harrow used against Viren in "What Is Done".
  • A Child Shall Lead Them: Again, Viren's distaste for child rulers is shown when Aanya, when she comes in. He comes in throwing his weight around, expecting that Aanya would not understand the "weighty matters" and that an adult's opinion should be appreciated, no offense. Aanya quickly shuts that discussion down by starting the meeting right away, along with a comment while she is a crown without an adult, he is an adult without a crown. He's rather miffed by that.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: King Harrow is gesturing and saying "If our aim is true, we'll find the right spot and get the job done." Amaya then says something to Harrow's wife in ASL, who laughs about it. While Amaya actually only joked about his gestures, there are no subtitles, so it looks like she made a dirty joke about what he said.
  • Erotic Dream: Implied in a flashback of Harrow and Sarai:
Harrow: Sarai, my father told me above all, I must be a just king. The night he died, Lady Justice came to me in a dream.
    Sarai: Lady Justice, huh?
Harrow: (Smirking) She was wearing her robes.
Sarai: Ugh, so a boring dream.
  • Honor Before Reason: King Harrow promises to share food with the Duren Kingdom during its famine, despite not having any extra to spare, forcing his people to share the suffering.
  • Living Lava: The humans have to fight a lava monster called titan.
  • Magic Map: Viren puts on quite an impressive display with his scroll map of the five kingdoms while trying to convince the rulers of the other four to join him in the war against Xadia.
  • The Needs of the Many: This is King Harrow's reasoning for killing the Magma titan. It's one monster vs 100,000 lives that can be saved by killing it. Queen Sarai isn't convinced, but she helps anyway.
  • Original Position Fallacy: Discussed. Harrow claims that Lady Justice came to him in a dream to teach him to avoid falling prey to this trope.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: When Viren recounts the Moonshadow Elves' attack, he depicts them with red eyes to make them scarier than they actually were.
  • Rogue Juror: All leaders agree to Viren's plan to go to war against Xadia...except for Queen Aanya. Viren then details the heroics of Aanya's parents in their fight against famine hoping to persuade her to join his cause.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: The royals of Duren and Katolis both went on the quest to slay the titan to provide food for their people.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: Viren is willing to stay behind to buy time, although if he dies, the trip will have been in vain and both kingdoms will be doomed.
  • Side Bet: During the flashback to when King Harrow and his wife Queen Sarai are sparring and discussing a the upcoming dangerous mission, Sarai successfully disarms and bests her husband. Two guards are watching the spar and the one on the left discretely hands over some coins to the now smugly smiling right guard.
  • Spreading Disaster Map Graphic: Viren visually outlines the consequences of an Elves' invasion into the human realm.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Discussed and defied by Queen Sarai. When King Harrow and Lord Viren are all set to cross into Xadia to gain the heart of a lava titan, she calls out Harrow's assumption that it's "just a monster" and asks whether it's intelligent, has feelings, hopes, dreams, or a family? Is it the Last of Its Kind? She argues that to save thousands, they could be murdering a sapient being.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Harrow was willing to allow 50,000 people in his kingdom to die of starvation just so Duren wouldn't have to suffer the burden of 100,000 deaths alone. Viren calls him out on this.
    • Sarai isn't shy about her opinions regarding the expedition to go against the Lava Titan, see above.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: While three of the four kings quickly go along with Viren's plan, the youngest among them, Queen Aanya, isn't so eager to jump into war based only on Viren's speech. Queen Aanya also points out how non-committal the others were by saying that they'd agree to the plan if everyone else agreed, showing they themselves aren't ready to commit. She's also quick to pick up that Viren's kind words hide a more sinister agenda.
