"Hold tight!"

"When I first came here, I was on a quest for revenge. But the moment I saw that egg, everything changed. Now, this is a journey of redemption."

The episode opens with Viren entering a shadowy room and selecting a butterfly from a glowing, hidden case. He emerges, the dead butterfly at his feet.

On the road, Rayla tries to clear her head and remove her bracelets as Callum fiddles with the cube the group obtained from the Banther Lodge, eventually attempting a lightning spell from Claudia that he doesn't yet know how to complete. The group decides to travel via boat despite Rayla's fear of water (and seasickness), and they careen over a waterfall into a lake with a giant predatory fish. Callum is able to knock it out with the incomplete lightning spell.

Back at the castle, Amaya refuses to believe that Viren's intentions in attempting to take the throne are pure, and entrusts Gren with the princes' rescue mission instead of Soren and Claudia. As soon as she leaves to return to the Breach, however, Viren tosses Gren into the dungeon and designates his children as the princes' rescuers.

The episode closes with Claudia informing Viren that Runaan, whom they have locked up, is still refusing to eat.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Even Viren got a chuckle out of the way Amaya called out his bull... droppings.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Amaya's greeting at Queen Sarai's resting place is shown completely in sign language, without any translation. Those who study ASL read her greeting as such:
Hello, sister. You were my hero. Perfect, strong and unbreakable. Kind and loyal. I'm sorry, older sister, I failed you. Your children were safe and I let them slip away.
  • Chekhov's Skill: The lightning spell that Callum doesn't know how to release comes in handy when confronted with the giant fish that resides in the lake — he simply dips it into the water, electrocuting the fish.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Callum tried to copy Claudia's lightning spell using the cube and the Primal Stone, but doesn't know how to finish it since he's only seen her do the first half of it.
Callum: But I'm very good at the first half!
Rayla: Seriously? That sounds like a really good and safe idea.
    Callum: Okay, lecture well-deserved!
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Ezran is not at all amused by Callum's "bait" joke, mainly because he's saying it in proximity of Bait.
  • Facepalm: Rayla facepalms when the boat drifts back to shore after she happily says it was floating away just out of reach.
  • Fiendish Fish: A giant predatory fish resides in the lake that the travelers find themselves in.
  • Foreshadowing: While swinging one of the stale breads around like a club, she suddenly yelped and grabbed her left hand as if it was in pain. Callum believes there's more to the wrist band on her left hand than just decorative.
  • Inevitable Waterfall: The river water starts moving faster, which of course is a cue that they're about to tumble over a waterfall.
  • Kissing the Ground: Rayla kisses the ground in joy after she gets off the boat.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: "Guard, fetch a stable boy, quickly. I've encountered a giant pile of bull...-droppings." Note that Gren's translation was accurate; Amaya used the two signs for "bull" and "droppings" instead of using the one sign for "B.S."
  • Meaningful Echo: Viren declares himself a servant of Katolis using nearly the same words as Harrow used in "Moonrise".
  • My Parents Are Dead: Subverted. Callum asks Rayla in a lighthearted way what her parents are like. She replies that her parents are dead which creates a Mood Whiplash. Later she confesses that she lied about her parents in order to avoid having to talk about them.
  • Reveal Shot: When the freckled messenger is revealed to be imprisoned by Lord Viren.
  • Talking to the Dead: Amaya takes some time to speak to a statue of her deceased older sister, Sarai, even lighting her a candle and kneeling.
  • Title Drop: By Viren in the throne room.
Viren: An empty throne is a beacon of weakness, an invitation to destroy us.
  • You Fool!: Discussed. Callum recalls that when he interrupted Claudia in casting a lightning spell against him, he thinks that she shouts "Fool!" at him.
