Chapter 3: Party Panic
Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Karla seems to find Hiccup's methods of pampering dragons — like belly-rubbing Catastrophic Quakens with his whole body — rather embarrassing.Karla: Our dad's such a weirdo....
- Ascended Meme: Apparently, Isabela started to own the "witch" moniker after being called one as a Running Gag.
- Extreme Doormat: Pedro seems content with doing whatever his sisters say with no actual agency of his own.
- Mythology Gag: The In-Universe portrayal of Toothless being played by a Terrible Terror is an obvious reference to the books, where Toothless is a small dragon not unlike the Terrible Terror.
- Shout-Out:
- One of the imaginary friends Pedro conjures is a "bizarrely smug blue blob".
- Many of the monsters Pedro makes for Karla's impromptu obstacle course resemble various badniks from Sonic the Hedgehog, with the Orca chasing her at the end being based off of the Killer Whales that chase Sonic in Sonic Adventure, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) and Sonic Generations.
- Theater!Hiccup shouts "Hasta la vista, baby!" during their battle with the Red Death puppet.
- Whole-Plot Reference: An In-Universe theatrical recreation of the first installment (in this case, The Dragon and the Butterfly) that goes horribly wrong? Sounds an awful lot like How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming.
- With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Mirabel nearly says the iconic quote towards Karla, who (being young and powerful) is a believer in With Great Power Comes Great Perks.
