Berserk Button: Astrid accidentally pushes it twice: first when it's revealed that she tried to kidnap Mirabel, second when she tells him that he'd make his father proud if he helped Berk. This only makes him angrier, as he doesn't care what Stoick thinks of him anymore and doesn't even consider him his father anymore.
Call-Back: Hiccup disowns Stoick as his father using the same words Stoick said to him a year ago.
Commonality Connection: Mirabel and Astrid seemingly have nothing in common, and Astrid snaps at her more than once. However, once they both reveal that they've lived through trauma, they start to bond.
Everyone Has Standards: Camilo's idea of mischief — pulling jump-scares with his shapeshifting and stealing food — is shown to be rather tame by the Twin's standards, so when the Twins start taking initiative, it nearly results in an innocent villager falling into a spike trap.
Insane Troll Logic: Fishlegs thinks that because coconuts have milk and are furry, they should be classified as mammals.
Misery Poker: It's revealed that the reason why Astrid resents Mirabel is because she thinks by virtue in living in a peaceful little town, Mirabel's problems pale in comparison to her own.
Mood Whiplash: Just before Astrid is about to tell Hiccup why they need him back, Isabela, Alma, and Dolores arrive on the scene and reveal to Mirabel that she was trying to kidnap her, leaving Mirabel shocked and Hiccup livid.
Right Behind Me: Hiccup snaps at Astrid when she tries to convince him to help Berk, and says that he doesn't care what "that jackass who calls himself [his] dad thinks of him"...right as Stoick walks up to the group.
Seinfeldian Conversation: Hiccup and Fishlegs get into a debate about the anatomy of palm trees. Mirabel and Astrid wisely stay out of it.
Unusually Uninteresting Sight: When Hiccup, Astrid, Mirabel, Fishlegs, and Toothless see a literal deluge of chickens caused by Camilo, Tuffnut and Ruffnut, they all decide that it would be better to remain uninvolved in all that nonsense.
