Christmas is coming up fast. So Elder Kettle sends the boys out to get a Christmas tree. Should be simple, right? Well…

Tropes included:

  • Bears Are Bad News: Cuphead and Mugman, sliding on the runaway tree, end up in the cave of a whole sleuth of bears, who are very angry at the cups waking them up from their winter slumber.
  • Christmas Episode: The first of two in the series, followed by the Christmas Special "A Very Devil Christmas".
  • Do You Want to Haggle?: Mugman tries to haggle for a lower price for a Christmas tree, but Porkrind stands firm at $10. He only changes the price by raising it to $15 out of spite.
  • Ethereal Choir: One sings when the boys find the perfect tree.
  • Human Snowball: While chasing after their tree that’s sliding down a snowy hill, Cuphead and Mugman briefly get rolled into a giant snowball.
  • I Can't Hear You:
Cuphead: I CAN’T HEAR YOU ON ACCOUNT OF ALL THESE BUZZSAWS!
  • Jaw Drop: Elder Kettle, Cuphead, and Mugman all have this reaction when their tree goes up in flames.
  • Literal Ass-Kicking: One of the bears takes the boys by their collars and kicks their butts out of his cave.
  • Lumber Mill Mayhem: The boys ride their perfect Christmas tree right into a lumber mill filled with Saw Blades of Death.
  • Reveal Shot: When Cuphead and Mugman are still arguing with Porkrind about the price of his trees, he tells him it doesn’t matter anyway because the last tree was just sold. The camera then pans out to show the lot completely empty.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: After all the trouble they go through to get the tree home, it goes up in flames as soon as the lights are turned on.
  • Sudden Anatomy: While haggling with Porkrind, Mugman keeps holding up more fingers the higher his offer goes. When Porkrind says his final offer is $15, Mugman suddenly grows 15 fingers.
  • Tempting Fate: Mugman says “This can’t possibly get any worse!” right as they go sliding off the side of a cliff.
  • True Meaning of Christmas: Elder Kettle reassures the boys that they didn’t ruin the holiday by screwing up their Christmas tree tradition.
Elder Kettle: The tradition isn’t just about the tree . . . It’s about being together and doing things as a family!
  • Violence Discretion Shot: The scene changes back to the outside of the cave as the boys get attacked by the group of bears.
