Go To

  • 21-Gun Salute: A twenty-one gun salute from the Navy, a 41 gun salute from the Army, and a flyover of Buckingham Palace herald the birth of the new Royal heir.
  • Bedmate Reveal
    • Subverted; after a montage of Margaret and Peter Townsend sleeping alone, the latter is revealed to have started a relationship with his much younger secretary.
    • Antony is Talking in Bed with an attractive blonde when her naked husband joins them in their conversation and the bed.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Antony admits this is part of Margaret's appeal.
  • Beneath the Mask: Elizabeth breaks down in tears after realising her sister is heading for another romantic disaster, one she's helpless to stop this time.
  • Call-Back: Margaret notes that her sister's silent response to her decision to marry Antony is better than the "Oh" she gave when she said she was going to marry Townsend.
  • Double Entendre: After a montage of Antony wallbanging Jacqui on a ladder, Antony jokes that "she didn't take it lying down."
  • The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry: Margaret deliberately sets out to upstage the Royal wedding of Queen Elizabeth by putting on an even bigger one in the same Abbey. Every attempt by Elizabeth to warn her off or delay the marriage for protocol reasons is seen as a deliberate attempt by her sister to once more sabotage the marriage.
  • Grand Staircase Entrance: Margaret in her wedding dress.
  • Hiding the Handicap: Antony hides the walking stick he uses as a result of his childhood polio when Margaret turns up.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Antony has sex with Jacqui Chan after a photo shoot on the studio ladder (the real Chan denied the latter, saying it looked rather uncomfortable).
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Elizabeth having to stop Margaret's engagement to Townsend makes her doubly reluctant to interfere in a marriage to someone who's even more unsuitable, even if it's legal this time.
  • On the Rebound: Margaret proposes to Antony after receiving a letter from Peter Townsend saying he's getting married. She even rushes to make her wedding announcement to beat Townsend to the punch.
  • The Promise: Margaret makes Elizabeth promise not to interfere in the marriage this time. As before, it's a promise she soon regrets making.
  • Really Gets Around: Suspicious of Margaret's intended, Elizabeth orders the Palace to make a discrete investigation to see if there are any nasty surprises. The result quickly becomes Too Much Information.
  • The Resenter: Philip goes on a drunken rant about how the Palace is going along with a commoner marrying Margaret, when they were so snobbish about his marrying Elizabeth despite his royal pedigree.
  • Romantic Ride Sharing: Intercut with a montage of Antony and Margaret having make-up sex.
  • Screaming Birth: Averted thanks to Elizabeth being given a 'twilight' injection first.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Despite hating the idea of marriage, Antony is drawn to marry Margaret if only to impress his snobbish mother who regards him as The Unfavorite. Sadly it's All for Nothing; even as they're taken in a horse-drawn carriage to the Abbey, he can't coax an admission of pride or love from her.
  • With This Ring: Antony gives Margaret a wedding ring hidden in a film cannister.
  • Your Cheating Heart: While he's considering accepting Margaret's wedding proposal, Antony is simultaneously engaged in a relationship with several other people, one of whom he's just gotten pregnant.
