- The Ground Is Lava: One of Grug's ways to make hiking fun is for everyone to pretend that the ground is lava. Phil doesn't get it.Phil: What? There's no lava here. What's wrong with you people?
- Incredibly Lame Fun: Phil's attempts as being "fun" are a one-stringed banjo and a series of science lessons.Phil: Science, music, extensive and compelling lectures about rocks. What else could I do to prove I'm fun?
- Straw Vulcan: Phil's big problem is that his analytical mind struggles to understand the "logic" behind what the others think of as "fun" and he tries to quantify and apply it as though it were a scientific variable.
