Grug takes Eep and Sandy hunting with him as a bonding exercise. Meanwhile, Phil decides that he should hang with Dawn and bond too, but they struggle to find something in common.

- Bait-and-Switch: At the start of "Daddy Daughter Day", Grug tries assuring Eep that she shouldn't feel jealous of Sandy taking up attention on what used to just be a day between them. Instead, Grug gets frustrated when Sandy breaks tradition throughout the day.
- Companion Cube: Phil and Hope gave a young Dawn an empty cage and told her it was a koalameleon when she wanted a pet. When Phil admits to it being her imaginary friend, she is genuinely devastated by it.
- Innocently Insensitive: In classic Phil fashion, his attempts at "bonding" come across as rather neglectful to Dawn's feelings, whether it's using her as a living shelf for his supplies to telling her that the pet that she loved as a kid never actually existed.

- Obnoxious In-Laws: Phil and Dawn successfully prank Hope by making her think that her mother-in-law is moving in with them.
- Quicksand Sucks: One of the hazards the trio run into is quicksand, the spot Sandy picked nearly drowning Grug in it.
- Running Gag: Eep and Sandy doing something competent, Grug asking where they learned it, they tell him that he did and he expresses surprise that he did.
