Recap / The Cleveland Show S 1 E 17 Gone With The Wind

Go To

Cleveland is devastated, when hearing his ex-wife, Loretta, was killed off.

Tropes:

  • Comes Great Responsibility: Doctor said the trope named line to Cleveland after he gave him "Fart Card".
  • Crossover: This episode weaves together all three of the Seth MacFarlane shows, into one established universe, as it not only heavily features Family Guy characters, such as Peter, Quagmire, and Loretta, as part of the plot, but after Quagmire's cameo in The Cleveland Show, he states that later today, he'll be making a cameo in American Dad!.
  • Disability as an Excuse for Jerkassery: Cleveland uses his fart card as a means to get away with farting at people.
  • Excessive Mourning: Cleveland is accused of doing this, regarding Loretta's death.
  • The "Fun" in "Funeral": Loretta's funeral was already silly enough as it was, but with Reverend Jenkins giving her a very hilarious eulogy, and there's a eulogy montage for Loretta that only really showed off more of her unlikable traits (namely her constant nagging and her cheating on Cleveland).
  • Gasshole: Cleveland has gastro-intestinal problems, throughout the entire first act.
  • Gassy Gastronomy: This episode sees Cleveland with flatulence issues that are so bad that when he tries to turn on a fan to clean up a fart cloud he produced from a house, it turns into a mini-tornado which wreaks havoc. His doctor eventually confirms that this is normal for a high-fibre diet, which he had been forced on at the beginning of the episode by Donna.
  • Hypocrite: Donna hatefully berates Cleveland for hurting so bad over the death of his ex-wife, despite the fact that she would react the same about the death of Robert, for the same reason. Cleveland calls her out on it.
  • Killed Off for Real: Loretta Brown.
  • Really Gets Around: Peter tells Donna that since Cleveland and Loretta's divorce, Loretta has been sleeping around with pretty much every single man in Quahog, including recurring characters like Ollie Williams, Adam West, Frank Sinatra Jr., and The Greased Up Deaf Guy.
  • Running Gag: Loretta's cause of death is falling out of the bathtub, the same way Cleveland did.
    • Also, while mourning at Loretta's grave, Cleveland drops an Oreo cookie. While trying to grab it back, Cleveland says "No, no, no, no, NO, NO!!!"
  • Self-Deprecation: The show makes fun of itself, via fourth wall joke. Quagmire takes a jab at The Cleveland Show, by comparing it to the short lived, unsuccessful Friends spin-off series, Joey.
  • Survivor Guilt: Cleveland experiences survivor's guilt over Loretta's death, because he's fallen out of the bathtub dozens of times, and didn't even get injured. However, Loretta falls out of it once, and instantly dies. The reason for this is because Cleveland has a big fat butt, serving as a safety cushion.
  • Talking to the Dead: Cleveland talks to Loretta from her tombstone while eating Oreos.
Cleveland: I don't understand, Loretta. Why did I cry at your funeral? You did me so wrong; I've moved on! So why am I upset? (one of the Oreos drops out of the packet and Cleveland tries to catch it) No no no no no no!! (realizes) Wait! That's it!
  • Town Contest Episode: A big karaoke contest happens at The Broken Stool in this episode, featuring tons of people from around stoolbend, including Cleveland, Donna, Tim, Arianna, Lester, Kendra, Coach McFall, and Gus.
  • Wham Episode: This episode kills off Loretta, and completely throws a curve ball at Cleveland.
