Tropes for "15 Candles" include:

  • Evil Laugh: Nico the monkey does one when he does Ronnie Anne and Sid's bidding to mess with the apartment plumbing.
    • Later, Ronnie Anne and Sid chuckle sinisterly when they come up with the plan to subject Rosa to the very plans Rosa has been subjecting Ronnie Anne to, just to show her how it feels to be in her shoes.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason that Rosa's so obsessed with planning/having a quinceañera for su nieta, Ronnie Annenote , is because in her youth, Rosa ultimately never got to have a quinceañera of her own—while Rosa really wanted to have one, su familia couldn't afford it (or something like that). Because of that, Rosa decided that the next best thing was to obsess over the quinceañeras of her daughter and granddaughters.
  • Not Allowed to Grow Up: Despite the Time Skip in The Loud House, Ronnie Anne still hasn't turned 12, because when she and su abuela are at Margarita's salon, Ronnie Anne claims that she won't be turning 15 for another three-and-a-half years.
  • Ocular Gushers: During Rosa's belated quinceañera, Frida's Tears of Joy come out like this, to the annoyance of Carlitos.
  • Quinceañera Goes Wrong: Rosa claims that su yerna, Frida, spent two years planning Carlota's quinceañera, only for the cake to come out too dry.
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: Following Sid's words, Ronnie Anne attempts to discourage Rosa from planning the quinceañera by subjecting her to the same obnoxious plans to show her how it feels to be in her shoes. This ranges from blaring mariachi music while she sleeps, styling her hair into the shape of the number 15, and having her wear a big poofy dress. It only gets Rosa to cancel Ronnie Anne's plans for skateboarding camp and make a brand-new binder for her to read regarding her quinceañera.
  • Tears of Joy: During Rosa's (very belated) quinceañera, Frida cries like this while taking photos.
  • Tempting Fate: When Ronnie Anne mentions that she convinced the tamale truck driver to have Rosa work on Saturdays, she's like, "What's she gonna do? Cook, drive and party plan at the same time?" Guess what happens in the next scene...

Tropes for "Rook, Line, & Sinker" include:

  • The Ditz: Of all the family members who went along with Carlos and Frida's game, Bobby was the only one who genuinely fell for Carl's scam of convincing him to sleep behind the mercado counter, as he is still shown doing so at the end of the episode.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Realizing that he and Frida have created a chess-obsessed monster in Carl, Carlos comes up with an elaborate plan to punish Carl. First, he and Frida get CJ to snore loudly (the sleep-farting was improvised on CJ's part). The next day, a sleep-deprived Carl asks his mother if he can get his own room, but Frida denies his request. So, Carl decides to convince Bobby to sleep behind the mercado counter, and then convince CJ to move into Bobby's room. Carl believes he finally succeeded in having the bedroom to himself, only to discover that Frida is using the room as her new art studio. When Carl asks where he's going to sleep, she and Carlos guide him to the rooftop, where he can sleep in Lalo's doghouse. When Carl expresses horror at the thought, Carlos and Frida exclaim, "Checkmate!"
  • Gasshole: As part of Carl's punishment, CJ snores loudly and farts incessantly to annoy Carl into asking for his own room.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Turns out, getting Carl into chess only made him even worse when it came to scamming people, like swindling Hector out of the last churro or getting his siblings to go to bed so he can have to TV to himself.
  • Hidden Depths: This episode reveals that Carl is a Child Prodigy when it comes to chess, having beaten his own father for five games in a row.
  • Smart People Play Chess: Carlos plays chess to relieve his stress when pushed to his "parental limit."
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: As Carl's punishment for tricking others, Carlos and Frida instructed CJ to snore loudly, so that Carl will ask for him own room, and got the rest of the family to go along with it to avoid suspicion (although Bobby genuinely bought Carl's persuading him to sleep behind the mercado counter).
  • Tears of Joy: Carlos and Frida both cry Ocular Gushers when they think they've made Carl into a better person by getting him into chess.
