Recap / The Bridge Ch 24 Chain Of Memories

Go To

Grand King Ghidorah continues his story to Gigan, Megalon, and Irys. Monster X and Ghidorah clashed. X's martial arts skills let him get some good hits in, but Ghidorah slammed him through a building, burying him in rubble. Before he could attack again, the Xilian military opened fire on Ghidorah. Their weapons could not hurt him, but he become annoyed and turned around to attack them. Suddenly, he heard a female, mental voice scream, "094! Now!" Monster X burst out of the rubble and attacked him, giving him a bloody nose on his right head. Enraged, Ghidorah slammed him down and tried to stomp on the back of his head, but he rolled out the way and fired Graviton Beams at him. Ghidorah blocked them and realized someone is aiding Monster X telepathically as he's dodging attacks he couldn't have seen coming.

Monster X rushed at him, but Ghidorah tried to read his mind again. He was blocked again, but forced his way past it and entered X's mind. He saw a memory of Praetorian Guard 094 as a child with his parents. Before he could see more, he was forced out of his mind. X staggered from the strain of the mental intrusion, leaving him vulnerable to Ghidorah slamming him down again. Ghidorah stomped on his head, damaging his helmet, then stomped on his chest repeatedly. X screamed in agony as his ribs broke, then Ghidorah angrily declared that he's a god and X will pay for interfering with his whims. When he wants to destroy a planet, he gets what he wants.

Controller 011 has spoken!

Ghidorah decided to read his mind again. While he's here, he might as well get some entertainment. He saw a memory of a laboratory. The technicians handled a vial that Ghidorah realized was a sample of his blood. A woman with dark purple irises and black veins on her face took the vial and mixed it with a black fluid. She declared that it will take too long to clone it, so their only hope is to inject it into someone with the M base gene. Ghidorah recognized her voice as that of the woman who warned X of his attack. The others in the room protested to Controller 011 that this plan was too reckless, but she declared that she has spoken and ordered them to begin the procedure.

Ghidorah was forced out of X's mind again. He stomped on X again, and he coughed up blood and went limp. The military froze in their tracks, stunned. Ghidorah heard a cry and saw Controller 011 standing on top of one of the last intact buildings. Curiously, she was covered in injuries identical to X's. Intrigued, Ghidorah decided to read her mind, causing her to grab her head and fall to her knees in agony. He saw the memory of the laboratory, this time from her perspective. Praetorian Guard 094 walked up to Controller 011 and begged her not to go through with the procedure. Surely, one of her loyal soldiers can do it instead. She said that with other Xilians, there is only a 13% success rate, while a Controller has a 22% success rate. However, 094 said he would not allow her to risk killing herself, knocked her unconscious, and took the vial, ordering the others to perform the procedure on him.

Monster X revived and desperately tried to pry Ghidorah's foot off him. The military resumed firing on him and 011 reestablished her mental blocks. Ghidorah deduced that 094 went through the procedure and transformed into Monster X, and that 094 and 011 are married. Ghidorah burst into laughter, commenting that out of the entire Xilian Empire, this was the best they could come up with? Pathetic.

A very large hover tank appeared and fired a massive missile at him, but he casually used his gravity control to redirect it at the building Controller 011 was standing on, sadistically making sure Monster X had a clear view. The building went up in smoke, and Monster X screamed as burns and cuts appeared on his body as a result of his psychic link with his wife.

Ghidorah said this has been interesting, but his patience wears thin and he has a planet to destroy. He attempted one final stomp to finish X off, only to be shocked when X caught his foot. X angrily fired his Graviton Beams, but Ghidorah withstood them and applied more pressure to his leg, trying to overpower X's hands and crush him. Suddenly X fired a much larger blast that sent Ghidorah flying.

Ghidorah freed himself from the rubble and looked up to see X kneeling and holding something in his hands, presumably 011's body. Ghidorah spammed his Graviton Beams, but X made no attempt to dodge, even as the beams tore into his body. Suddenly, X emitted an energy shield that blocked the beams. X let out a primal scream and earthshaking roar, knocking Ghidorah back and sending debris flying.

Ghidorah looked on in horror as X's eyes lost their intelligence and were replaced by those of a snarling beast. His black skin slowly started to be replaced by golden scales and his muscles started to expand. X slowly advanced on Ghidorah, ignoring his attacks. Scared, Ghidorah tried to fly away, but X painfully sprouted wings from his back and caught up to him. X ignored a blast of wing lightning, grabbed Ghidorah's left neck, and repeatedly punched his face. After the first few hits, X's arm increased in size and punched with enough force to knock out some of Ghidorah's teeth. Ghidorah shrieked in agony, but managed to break his grip and slam X down with enough force to create a mushroom cloud, then barraged his prone form with lightning and Graviton Beams.

Ghidorah landed, panting, but Monster X emerged from the smoke, paying his injuries no mind and glaring at him with pure hate. X's armor shattered as he increased in size and transformed into a three-headed dragon similar in form to Ghidorah, except quadruped instead of biped. He gave a battle cry that sounded like a mix of screaming, roars, and bloodthirsty laughter.

The King versus the Kaizer.

Grand King Ghidorah sensed the massive amount of energy this new foe was emitting and asked, "What the hell are you?" The rival dragon replied, "You call yourself 'King'? Then I am Kaizer... You are no god, but I am the Devil."

King Ghidorah angrily formed a massive ball of Graviton energy, like a miniature sun, and launched it at Kaizer Ghidorah. Kaizer Ghidorah punched it, ignoring the burns on his hand as he sent it back, exploding against King Ghidorah while punching it into him. Kaizer Ghidorah then hit him with a lariat and ripped his left wing out of its socket. King Ghidorah went down, and Kaizer Ghidorah began to stomp on his chest, breaking his ribs.

King Ghidorah managed to blast Kaizer Ghidorah back, stunning him. Despite the complete agony he was in, King Ghidorah got up and angrily declared that he will not lose. He tackled Kaizer Ghidorah and chomped down on his three necks, trying to tear his throats out. Kaizer quickly freed himself, then the two got into a beam struggle at close range. The gathered energy exploded and sent them flying. King Ghidorah barely managed to stop his fall, only for Kaizer Ghidorah to plow into him.

Five minutes later, the injured and exhausted King Ghidorah could no longer put up any resistance as Kaizer Ghidorah mercilessly pummeled him. Kaizer Ghidorah carried him through the air, creating a long trench as King Ghidorah's center head was dragged along the ground. Kaizer Ghidorah was heavily injured as well, but his rage and insanity allowed him to shrug off the pain. Kaizer Ghidorah then bit down on him with his three heads and siphoned off his life force. King Ghidorah couldn't break free and fell limp, as Kaizer Ghidorah's injuries healed up thanks to the meal. Then he bit down on King Ghidorah's left neck with all three of his heads and pulled with all his might, hoping he's still conscious because he wanted him to feel all of this.

Grand King Ghidorah pauses the story and lifts the scales on his left neck to show a scar that goes all the way around his neck. He comments that it was a very painful and disturbing experience to suddenly lose his head and lose a third of his senses; more or less directly stating that Kaizer Ghidorah ripped his head off. The trio are all horrified, and Irys asks how he survived. King Ghidorah says that is the interesting part.

King Ghidorah was about to pass out from the pain and blood loss. Before Kaizer Ghidorah could finish him off, several military vehicles drove up and one scared Xilian spoke into a megaphone-like device. He identified himself as Field Marshal 973 and said King Ghidorah or Monster 0 has been defeated, so Praetorian Guard 094 can stop. Kaizer Ghidorah glared at him and all their weapons and King Ghidorah realized what was about to happen and braced himself. Field Marshal 973, scared out of his mind, claimed that they will find Controller 011 and all he has to do is return to base and wait, but Kaizer Ghidorah roared that it is their fault she is dead and attacked them, pausing to kick King Ghidorah and knock him unconscious.

King Ghidorah woke up a half hour later to find the city completely leveled and Kaizer Ghidorah maniacally hunting down the few surviving military vehicles. King Ghidorah fought through the pain and managed to get up. His pride had been torn to shreds by his defeat and that makes him so angry, but then he decided screw his pride, if he doesn't escape, he is going to die. His wings were broken, but he still had control over gravity and used that to levitate himself. He slowly rose up into the atmosphere, praying Kaizer Ghidorah wouldn't notice him, but a drop of his blood fell and hit the ground and Kaizer heard it. Kaizer Ghidorah declared he would not escape and flew after him. With no more energy left to fire a blast, King Ghidorah tried to fly up as fast as he could in desperation. Just before Kaizer Ghidorah could reach him, he suddenly stopped and started thrashing in pain and frustration. King Ghidorah realized Kaizer Ghidorah was being targeted by a mental assault. A huge slash wound appeared on Kaizer Ghidorah's chest and he fell out of the sky. King Ghidorah used the last of his strength to escape the atmosphere and enter outer space. He vowed to never come to this solar system ever again. Eventually, his injuries healed and his head grew back.

Grand King Ghidorah tells the trio that the story is over and orders them to get out of his chamber. As they solemnly leave, he asks them now that they know the truth, what will they do with this information? They realize with horror what he means. If they tell Monster X about his past, he might mentally break and turn back into Kaizer Ghidorah. If they don't tell him and he finds out on his own, he'll break anyway, and he'll blame them for keeping this from him. Megalon reminds them that the Master promised to restore X's memories as payment for his services. Gigan slashes through a wall in frustration as they note that no matter what, they are screwed, and Grand King Ghidorah got the last laugh on them.

In the human world, Adagio Dazzle packs their things into their stolen van. Last night, Aria Blaze burst into their cabin with a busted arm, terrified out of her mind and screaming about monsters in the woods. They took her to the hospital for her injuries, and now that they have been attacked twice, Adagio decided they need to move to a different city. This place is too dangerous and they lack the power to fight back at this time. After making sure they have everything they need, her alarm clock rings, telling her it is noon. Adagio tells Sonata Dusk that it is time to pick up Aria from the hospital and then get the heck out of here.

Enjin escapes from the frozen lake and stoically marches through the forest. All the animals steer clear from him, able to sense his pure malevolence. He senses Kaizer Ghidorah's energy, curious that he is not moving. He enters the town and marches until he reaches the hospital. He approaches the back and sees a lone worker working on a maintenance panel. Enjin silently grabs the man and throws him with enough force to dent a parked ambulance, killing him. He then forces the door open.

Monster X wakes up groggy. He is confused that he is a human again and his chest and stomach are covered in stab wounds. While his healing factor is a bit slow compared to most other Kaiju, his wounds have closed. He wanders the woods, trying to figure out what happened. That last thing he remembers is fighting Grand King Ghidorah in the Master's throne room. He sees the hollow tree Aria hid in and has some brief flashes of memory, of cornering Aria in the tree and then being attacked by Enjin. All around him are signs of a struggle. With this information, he comes up with a logical, but incorrect conclusion. He believes the Master returned him to this world to reacquire the Sirens and make up for his previous failure, but he was attacked by that strange being and a blow to his head is what erased his memory.

He rubs his aching head and discovers his mask and scarf are gone. He looks around for them, and the wind suddenly blows in his face, forcing him to shield his eyes and turn away, but it helps him find his mask and scarf. He sees a small pond, and out of curiosity, looks in to see his face for the first time without any coverings. When he is just about to look at his reflection, he forces himself to look away and don his mask and scarf; actually a tad afraid to see what he looks like as he's always had a mask or his helmet on to obscure his face. Monster X curses himself for getting off track and sets off.

He tries to find out which way is the city, when the wind pushes him in the direction of the road. He can sense residual energy from the Sirens, meaning they used this road, but he can't tell which direction they went. The wind pushes him southward, and the wind chime-like voice of Harmony says, "They went that way, hurry!" He is annoyed by this mysterious voice once again telling him what to do and refusing to identify herself, but decides he has no choice and jogs down the road.

The face of fear.

Aria Blaze wakes up to find she is no longer in her hospital bed but instead floating in a starry void, and she is back in her true Siren form. Her necklace floats before her and then its gemstone enlarges until it is the size of a bathroom mirror.

Harmony's voice tells her that the entire world is in danger. The gemstone shows an image of Kaizer Ghidorah's human form as Harmony explains that Aria absorbed some of his power last night, and in doing so, she made herself a target. The gemstone then shows an image of Enjin and Aria backs away scared. Harmony says her only chance is to work together with... Harmony cuts herself off and panics, saying he is already there. She screams to Aria to wake up right now, and help will arrive if she can only survive for five minutes.

Aria wakes up back in the hospital bed, shaken up. An orderly says he's glad she's awake. According to her X-Rays, nothing is broken and she should be fine. Adagio and Sonata just arrived at the front desk to pick her up. Suddenly, Enjin enters the room and kills the orderly mid-sentence. Aria looks on in terror as Enjin approaches, convinced the person before him is his target, because he can sense Kaizer Ghidorah's energy within her.
