Karakurt (No. 55) provides examples of:

  • Body Horror: The symptoms of the rota virus used to kill Hawkins and his son are not pleasant to see as they start to turn red, convulse, excrete mucus, and hemorrhage.
  • Frame-Up: Red informs Liz that she is being framed for the murder of Senator Hawkins and the bombing of the the building for the CIA Office of Russian and European Analysis. She's also being framed as a Russian spy which means that the Cabal is also framing Russia.
  • Instant Illness: Justified in this case as the “Weapon of Individual Destruction” was designed that way by Dr. Andropov. The two individuals that are affected by it start showing rather violent symptoms seconds after they are infected. Although, it's basically harmless to anyone who isn't Clifford Hawkins or his son.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Senator Hawkins who Reddington implied has warmonger tendencies. In other words he's a warhawk.
    • According to Liz, Karakurt means spider. A fitting name for some one who made a trap that caused an FBI agent to accidentally cause the death of a senator.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: At the end of the episode Red tells Liz that he believes that the Cabal had infected her with the rota virus without her knowledge. Unfortunately, that means when she intercepted Senator Hawkins she inadvertently infected him with the virus.
  • Red Baron: Karakurt, who is only by the name Karakurt.
  • Professional Killer: Karakurt is one that formerly worked primarily for the Russian SVR. Now he works for the Cabal.
  • Western Terrorists: Karakurt who bombs the OREA building and assassinates a senator for the Cabal.
