Plot
In the eleventh season opener, Amy responds to the cliffhanging question from last season. Meanwhile, Howard and Bernadette deal with unexpected news.
Tropes:
- Ask a Stupid Question...: Leonard wonders why Sheldon's phone would have been in flight mode for the last few hours. Because he was on a plane, duh.
- Bait-and-Switch: Amy and Sheldon meet up with the guys during lunch and happily discuss their new engagement. Amy recognizes Ramona and decides to approach her. Howard and Raj immediately expect a serious smackdown and watch in anticipation. Amy calmly walks over to Ramona, who appears nervous as she recognizes Amy (and heard of her engagement to Sheldon). Instead of confronting her for kissing Sheldon, Amy instantly hugs her and begins thanking her. She's grateful for Ramona kissing Sheldon because it made him decide to propose to her. Raj and Howard are disappointed.
- The Cameo: Discussed. Sheldon realizes he should have done a cameo in Amy'snproverbial movie rather than make everything about himself.
- Chocolate Baby: Invoked by Penny, who compares an accidental second pregnancy to going back and buying a top she likes in a different color. She backpedals to "hope that's not the case with you".
- Foregone Conclusion: Amy accepting Sheldon's marriage proposal was pretty obvious.
- It's All About Me: Sheldon can't handle that Amy's colleagues are more interested in her work than in him.
Amy: You know, these are my colleagues, and they want to talk about my work. Why does that bother you so much?
Sheldon: Because I was there. It's like having
Optimus Prime over to dinner and not asking him to turn into a truck.
- The Reveal:
- After the previous season ended with Sheldon's proposal, we finally hear Amy's response: It's a yes!
- Bernadette is pregnant again.
- Wham Episode: Not because of Amy accepting Sheldon's proposal, which was pretty much a foregone conclusion, but because of Bernadette's second pregnancy, which comes as a surprise even to her given how careful they were and really didn't want a second child. Yet here they are!
