All characters are present.

We open with Mad Scientist Tasha telling her assistant, birthday boy Austin, about her top secret experiment ("I've Got A Secret"). Austin must find three monsters and bring them to the laboratory.

Austin's first stop is a pyramid, where Mummy King Tyrone lives. After a brief fiasco with dropping tiles, he has to convinced the wrapped up royal that he is nothing to be afraid of ("Scared Of You").

After departing the pyramid, Austin and Tyrone go into the forest to find Werewolf Uniqua, and Tyrone gets flung around by a sentient tree. Of course, when Tyrone and Uniqua first meet, they need a minute to get over their fear of each other ("Scared Of You" reprise).

The final stop is a castle inhabited by Vampire Pablo. Once again, the monsters are afraid of each other ("Scared Of You" reprise). Once everyone has calmed down, Austin brings them back to the laboratory ("Hurry Home").

As it turns out, Tasha needed the monsters to have a Surprise Party to celebrate Austin's birthday ("Monster Dance Party"). Hooray!

"I'm scared of these tropes!"

  • Ageless Birthday Episode: It's never stated how old birthday boy Austin is turning.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: Austin feels like one, being forced to run errands for his boss on his birthday. But it turns out that Tasha was having him deliver the invitations while she set up a surprise party for him.
  • Booby Trap: Austin and the other monsters have to navigate one at each new location they visit: falling stone spheres at Tyrone’s home, a Grabbing Tree at Uniqua’s home, and a falling staircase at Pablo’s home.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Uniqua. Pablo and Tyrone could be gender flipped examples.
  • Dramatic Thunder: Thunder crashes when Tasha introduces her laboratory.
  • Evil Laugh: While she herself isn’t evil, Tasha as the Mad Scientist does one frequently throughout the episode.
  • Fear Song: "Scared of You"
  • Halloween Episode: Certainly intended as such, even if it didn't originally air on Halloween itself.
  • Haunted Castle: Where Vampire Pablo lives.
  • Horrifying the Horror: All of the monsters are more scared of Austin (and each other) than he is of them.
  • The Igor: Austin fits this role as he’s Tasha the Mad Scientist’s assistant.
  • Mad Scientist: Tasha plays one in this episode.
  • Mad Scientist Laboratory: Where Tasha the Mad Scientist lives and where she throws Austin a surprise birthday party.
  • Monster Mash: This episode features a Mummy, a Werewolf, a Vampire, a Mad Scientist and her Igor.
  • Not-So-Forgotten Birthday: It’s Austin’s birthday and he thinks his boss, Mad Scientist Tasha, has forgotten about it, but really she’s been planning a surprise party for him.
  • Pungeon Master: The invitations written by Tasha all have a little pun related to each monster snuck in ("in case you're not too wrapped up" for Tyrone, "it'll be a howl" for Uniqua, and "this may sound batty" for Pablo).
  • Suddenly Always Knew That: Austin is conveniently able to read hieroglyphics, werewolf, and vampire.
  • Surprise Party: What Tasha was planning for Austin, and she sent him to round up the monsters to keep him distracted.
  • Wasn't That Fun?: When they reach the Vampire’s tower, Austin, Tyrone, and Uniqua are warned against proceeding with their journey. They do so, and are rewarded with a falling staircase. Uniqua is left hanging on to the top landing for dear life... and yet, completely unbothered.
Uniqua: Hey! That was fun! Let's do it again!
    Tyrone: Or let's not!
  • Werewolves Are Dogs: Uniqua the werewolf whimpers like a puppy when Austin and Tyrone accidentally startle her.
  • When Trees Attack: While visiting Werewolf Uniqua, one of the trees comes to life and picks up Mummy King Tyrone.
  • Worst. Whatever. Ever!: Austin when he thinks he lost the monster he spent his entire birthday gathering up.
Austin: This is the worst birthday ever.
