Philip takes the Mossad agent he and Elizabeth captured to an abandoned building until they can get out safely. Arkady calls upon his bosses in Moscow to negotiate with the Israelis so they can get Philip out safely. Eventually, the Israelis get the Mossad agent back, the Soviet Union agrees to let 1,500 Soviet Jews emigrate to Israel, and Philip gets Baklanov back, taking him to a ship bound for the Soviet Union.
Stan gets called in to help find Baklanov, and thanks to a tip from Nina, realizes Oleg is somehow connected. Stan follows Oleg, believing he'll be able to lead the FBI to Baklanov. Instead, it turns out the whole thing was a set-up for Oleg to meet Stan, so he can let Stan know he knows Stan recruited Nina. He asks Stan to think about what he can do to keep Nina from getting killed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth, posing as "Jennifer", "Clark's" sister, visits Martha so she can put her at ease about "Clark", and Philip meets Kate (Wrenn Schmidt), his and Elizabeth's new handler.
This episode contains examples of:
- Actor Allusion: When "Jennifer" is discussing "Clark" with Martha, she says she doesn't mean to be a "buttinsky". Felicity Porter, Keri Russell's previous most well-known TV role, was described as a buttinsky.
- Batman Gambit: What Oleg pulls on Stan, leading him on a decoy chase because he knows Stan will follow him, allowing him to blackmail Stan into giving up information.
- Call-Back: Elizabeth tells Paige she's okay with Paige reading anything she wants, but not to lie about it.
- Deadpan Snarker: When Oleg tries to interrupt Arkady while he's sending a message about Baklanov to the Centre, Arkady wonders, "Is President Reagan personally scaling our walls wearing his cowboy hat?"
- I Have a Family: When Baklanov is pleading with Philip to let him stay in the U.S., he brings this up.
- Meaningful Echo: When Yossi, the Mossad agent, is trying to get through to Philip, he mentions the icicles in his country. At the end, when Elizabeth and Philip are in their bedroom together, he asks her about the icicles where she was growing up.
- Nobody Poops: Averted; the Mossad agent Philip is holding hostage has to go to the bathroom at one point, and Philip is forced to help him.
- Playing Drunk: While escorting the Mossad agent, Elizabeth and Philip pass by a police car, and do this, even forcing the Mossad agent to do this. The Mossad agent even sings along to "The Gambler" - which is playing in a nearby bar - as if he were drunk.
- Sex God: Martha tells "Jennifer" she thinks "Clark" is like this, describing him as "a real animal in bed".
- Shout-Out: Martha is watching an episode of Hill Street Blues when "Jennifer" shows up.
- Spy Speak: George, the man who passes messages to Elizabeth and Philip, as well as the one who is listening to Martha's messages to "Clark", passes that information on to Elizabeth by pretending to be a caller from the Columbia Record Club.
- Two-Part Episode: Concludes the story from "A Little Night Music".
- Vodka Drunkenski: Discussed: when Arkady is dictating the message to his bosses, the aide sending the message offers him Soviet cigarettes. Arkady tries smoking one, doesn't like it, and admits, "They (the Americans) make better cigarettes, we make better vodka."
- You Monster!: Baklanov calls Philip this when Philip is taking him back to the Soviets.
