Kip Schlezinger: Good evening. I'm Kip Schlezinger, and this is Elmore News.

From police chases to the inside scoop on Daisy the Donkey, Channel 6 Elmore News has all the top local stories; experienced newscaster Kip Schlezinger brings the latest news, sports and weather, even when there is absolutely nothing to report.

Tropes:

  • Bad News in a Good Way: A report on crashing stock markets is presented in the form of a jaunty musical number.
  • Chroma Key: Parodied with the weather report. The weatherman, Phil, is the same color as the green screen, which Kip finds amusing, especially when they put humorous pictures behind him.
  • Critical Staffing Shortage: Mike is the only field reporter, which means he has to rush from story to story.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Mike the Microphone Guy and Kip.
  • Forgotten Framing Device: In a strange example, the episode begins on Darwin and Gumball watching the news program, but it doesn't end there—because, minutes later, their house caught on fire and became part of the news program. This is because the original version did not have the scene where they decide to watch the news, and instead began with the news intro.
  • One-Word Vocabulary: The sports newscaster is a foam puppet who only yells "SPORTS!" (until he gets tired).
  • Overly Long Gag:
    • The newscast’s rather long and over-produced intro graphics.
    • Kip and Mike trying to report on "nothing".
    • Barry's SPOOOOOOOOOORTS!!! segment.
  • Padding: In-Universe: the news crew realizes they ran out of news, so they just keep talking about nothing to run the clock, and freely admit it.
Coming up next, we have nothing. We didn't have enough news to cover the whole show tonight, so I'm gonna say absolutely nothing in the cadence of a news story, and I hope I'll get away with it.
  • Retcon: Kip was previously shown as a live-action human as far back as "The Law", but in this episode is shown as a puppet made of newspaper. Justified, as the popular version of this episode that was released is actually a Re-Cut made after Ben Bocquelet discovered that no one except for him liked the original version of the episodenote , so he decided to create a new version where all the anchors in the studio are puppets. The version where the anchors are humans does air on some overseas Cartoon Network channels (such as the African and Latin American versions) and a rough cut of the original episode has been floating around the Internet.
  • Running Gag:
    • Kip's makeup artist keeps trying to apply some powder to his face throughout the episode.
    • Kip pronounces his last name differently every time he introduces himself, each way more ridiculous than the last.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: In the end there was no robbery at Joyful Burger. The call to the police was Richard calling about ants taking one of his fries. Here's an artist's impression.
  • Shout-Out: Perhaps unintentional, but both Xavier and sports reporter Barry seem to agree on the right way to distract people who love sports: Chanting "Sports!" as enthusiastically as you can.
    • The news' overdramatic and overlong intro is one to The Day Today, even down to the near-identical theme music.
