The Wattersons will do whatever it takes to get into the first screening of the latest Stellar Odyssey sequel.

Tropes:

  • Appointment Television: Loads of people camp out at the theater, insistent that they have to see the film's very first screening, and not a second screening that starts a half-hour later.
  • Autocannibalism: Banana Bob is shown to have gone insane waiting for the new Stellar Odyssey to come out before production even began. He demonstrates to the Wattersons how insane he is by eating himself, leaving only a pile of mush.
  • Batman Gambit: Colin and Felix sent a notification to Gumball's phone telling him to go to another movie theater. Gumball reveals this to everyone else, causing them all to try to go to that movie theater while Colin and Felix get to the front of the line at the actual movie theater.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Wattersons along with all the moviegoers miss the premiere of Stellar Odyssey after getting tricked by Colin and Felix. But they honestly deserved it, which is what keeps it from being a Downer Ending.
  • Bowdlerise: The version of this episode shown on Cartoon Network's Latin American channel cuts the part where Tobias Force chokes Jackie after she says that they're not going to see the whole movie because it's a reboot.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick:
Nicole: I don't see why everyone cares so much about a movie where a guy hangs out with a whistling trash can, hates his robot dad, and kisses his sister.
  • Captain Ersatz: Stellar Odyssey isn't so much a parody of Star Wars as virtually the same franchise, just with a different name (albeit the name itself is more reminiscent of Star Trek).
  • Didn't Think This Through: One man moved the tent the Wattersons were sleeping in to the back of the line. He lost his place because he left the line to move the tent.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Colin and Felix trick the other moviegoers into moving to the other side of town, only to be disappointed by the appearance of the Jar-Jar stand-in. Subverted a moment later as said stand-in gets blasted in the face, to Colin and Felix' satisfaction.
  • Movie-Theater Episode: The episode is about the Wattersons trying to get (good) seats for a movie's first showing, then everyone (apparently) discovering that they bought tickets for a different theater.
  • The Scrappy: In-universe. Everyone is clearly not fond of the Jar-Jar Binks stand-in, Chuckie. Darwin seems to be the only one who likes him because he provides the comic relief... that nobody asked for.
  • Shout-Out: Darude's "Sandstorm" plays in an imagination sequence involving live action puppets of Richard and Nicole dancing.
  • Take That!: The episode has many unflattering portrayals of Star Wars and (especially) its fandom.
    • The equivalent of The Force Awakens is called The Force Rehashed, based on the criticisms that TFA seems to mirror A New Hope.
    • Darwin is the only one who likes the Jar Jar Binks stand-in, who he describes as providing comic relief "even when nobody asked for it". Colin and Felix celebrate when said character is shot in the face.
    • Richard at one point says he would rather be home watching the holiday special than sit at a disadvantaged back row in the theater.
    • Fans are portrayed as extremely elitist, and brag about how much of their life they've spent proving their dedication (Richard wins a "nerd-off" because his opponent, the male teapot, admitted to having a friend). In particular, the ones who saw the original films when they came out plainly dismiss the interests of younger fans.
    • Two people, Julius and the rotten cupcake, in line say they only want the movie to be like the first three, and Gumball gets them to abandon their spot by making them think that the entire cast had been changed to be comprised of women (and sock puppets).

Gumball: The Line

In an episode that's full of references to Star Wars and its fandom, Darwin references JarJar Binks, calling him an unnecessary comic relief while copying his voice and speech.
