Masami's birthday party is coming up, and all her classmates are in a rush to get a good present so they won't face her father's wrath.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Kidnapping: Gumball and Darwin's desperate plan to give Masami a meaningful present by isolating her from her party after seeing how irritated she is with people fawning over her. They Didn't Think This Through and end up Locked in a Room.
  • Answer Cut:
    Gumball: Why is nobody home?!
(cut to a hospital room where Richard, Nicole, and the bandage doctor are standing next to Anais, who's on a bed)
Doctor: ...because your daughter kept kissing frogs. That's how you get frog flu.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Darwin impedes Tobias in the chase by affixing his sweatband to the wall. Tobias keeps pushing along, stretching the sweatband out, setting up for a joke where it springs back once he can't push forward anymore. Eventually, Tobias passes out from pushing so hard... right after the headband snaps.
  • Behind the Black: The entire class was hiding just offscreen to eavesdrop on Gumball and Darwin phishing Masami for a present she'd like, forming a perfect frame when the camera zooms out at the end of the conversation.
  • Bewitched Amphibians: Averted; Anais attempts to invoke this with True Love's Kiss for her frog prince, only for her to catch a nasty case of frog flu and end up in the hospital.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: After seeing Gumball and Darwin left him in the middle of his saccharine speech about love, Alan notices and addresses the camera and continues causing it to steadily begin running away.
  • Brick Joke: All that frog kissing just gave Anais frog flu, necessitating a hospital visit by the family leaving Gumball and Darwin home alone with Masami.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Remembering Masami's crush on Alan back in The Storm, Gumball and Darwin briefly try to get him to pretend to be her's boyfriend for a day as a gift.
    • Gumball and Darwin sequester Masami in the basement they discovered back in The Nobody.
  • Creator Cameo: The painting Darwin and Gumball attempt to buy has a nameplate saying it was drawn by series director Mic Graves.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: Gumball and Darwin's attempts to text Mr. Yoshida for help on Masami's phone end up looking more and more like an intentional kidnapping and ransom.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: When Gumball and Darwin are panicking over the gift, Richard suggests gifting Masami friendship, but he's dismissed. Later, when they notice how unhappy Masami is, the duo conclude that, against all odds, their dad was right.
  • Eye Scream: Masami's party invitation is a robotic flashbang bird whose explosion uses confetti to burn the words into the retinas, visible when you close your eyes. Larry's been through it twenty times, and when he goes through it with Gumball and Darwin a second time they're blind and their irises appear to be melting.
  • Idiot Ball: Anais spends the episode kissing frogs thinking one will eventually be a prince, despite being one of the smarter and most logical characters.
  • Literal-Minded: When Masami was trying to tell her friends she just want a simple gift like a flower, Leslie proceeds to give her one... by tearing off his head!
  • Non-Indicative Name: The Mic Graves painting of kittens playing in a pile of money worth $20,000 is called "$4,000".
  • Out of the Frying Pan: Darwin and Gumball bust a pipe to put out a fire while sealed in the basement, but this turns the room into a Drowning Pit.
  • Retractable Appendages: It turns out that, like her arms, Masami's long legs can be retracted into her body. It's where she wears the rainbow toe socks Harry got for her birthday. She wears them all the time she loves them so much.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Gumball and Darwin attempts to uninvite themselves out of Masami's party but they can't get rid of the invitation that is burned into their retinas.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Masami is perfectly fine with a simple present, everyone was stressing themselves out over nothing.
  • Who's on First?: A $20,000 painting is entitled "$4,000", because the picture is a pile of money with kittens playing around in it.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Anais sincerely believes finding a frog prince is a viable method to achieve her Prince Charming. The doctor advises a cutback on princess movies as part of her recovery from that backfiring.
