Gumball's duel with the titular pest.

Darwin and Gumball try to help Anais deal with a kid who's always bothering her at school — and Gumball ends up fighting for his sister's honor when he discovers that her bully is Billy Parham (from "The Egg"), who is still sore over being rejected by Anais.

Tropes:

  • Adults Are Useless: Gumball tries and go to Ms. Simian for help to avoid Anais getting into a physical confrontation. She's deeply sarcastic and apathetic since, relative to her experiences, it's both a tolerable and expected part of life.
  • An Aesop: One particularly bad moment in your life doesn’t excuse you of being a Jerkass. You should just move on and be happy.
  • …And That Little Girl Was Me:
Gumball: Now explain yourself. Why do you hate my sister?
Billy: (sighs) There was once a little boy who—
Gumball: Can we just stick to the subject, please?
Billy: The boy is me—it's a story about me.
    Gumball: Oh, sorry. Please continue.
  • Blunt Metaphors Trauma: Anais isn't the best at expressing herself through metaphors. Gumball is dumbfounded by them and outright asks why they're so weird.
  • Bowdlerization: During the part where Miss Simian shows off the scars she received during her many years of teaching, the scene of her showing off the scar she got on her rear end (with Gumball and Anais running out of the classroom in shock and Darwin turning pale and falling off the stilts he was on) was cut on Cartoon Network's Latin America channel.
  • Brief Accent Imitation: While Gumball mocks Billy's Motive Rant, he imitates Billy's Received Pronunciation.
  • Brick Joke:
    • "The Others" started with Gumball attempting to "go Super Saiyan". In this episode, he manages to pull it off.
    • When Gumball and Darwin see how much of a jerkass Billy has become they allow Anais to beat him up. She appears to walk off in a huff. At the end, after Gumball resolved the issue with him, she comes in with a dropkick since she was getting a running start for full force.
  • Cerebus Callback: Anais turning down Billy's love at the end of "The Egg" was just played as a gag to return to status quo, but it turns out Billy was genuinely hurt by this and still is.
  • Every Scar Has a Story: Miss Simian tells a story for each scar she shows on her body, which also gives insight on how long she's lived on Earth: her earliest scar was when she got beat up by two Homo Erectus parents for teaching their kid how to make fire two million years ago.
  • Everything but the Girl: Billy is a rich genius that almost everyone loves, but failing to impress Anais turned him into a bitter jerk who harasses her mercilessly. As Gumball points out, it is completely absurd for him to be upset over such a thing.
Gumball: 'Little Billy's life is awesome and he's very intelligent and rich, but Anais doesn't love him, so now he's a broken man!" Things don't always work out the way you want in life, dude.
    Billy: What do you mean?
Gumball: I mean everyone is slightly unhappy. Life has high and lows! And for the record, for most people on this planet, life completely blows. So why make it worse by fighting?
Billy: Oh... I feel rather silly. Silly Billy...
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: After hearing Billy's explanation about why he gives Anais a hard time, Gumball tells him point blank that just because he's unhappy doesn't mean he should be a jerkass to his sister.
  • Game Face: As Anais gets more annoyed with Billy in her forced interaction with him, she grows fangs and her eyes turn black as she hisses.
  • Glove Slap: Gumball pulls off the fur on his hand like a glove and slaps Billy to challenge him to a duel. Billy responds by ripping off Bobert's arm and slapping Gumball with it, giving him a black eye.
  • Impossible Shadow Puppets: Billy gives a highly detailed shadow puppet show off his Fingerless Hands.
Gumball: OK, first how did you do that with your hands? That was amazing.
  • Mooning: Miss Simian raises her skirt with her back to the window while describing how she got her scars to Gumball and Anais. Her rear isn't visible to them (or the audience) from that angle, but it is visible to Darwin, who's watching from outside on three-story stilts.
  • Noodle Incident: Miss Simian's arm scar. It's not known how she got it specifically, besides the fact that it was from her time in Massachusetts during the Salem Witch Trials in 1692.
  • Public Domain Soundtrack: As Billy is explaining himself, "The Aquarium" from "Carnival of the Animals" plays.
  • Sequel Episode: The guy bothering Anais turns out to be Billy, who's still hurt that she rejected him in "The Egg" for not liking Daisy the Donkey.
  • Shown Their Work: As mentioned by a comment or two on YouTube, the Dragon Ball Shout-Out where Gumball goes Super Saiyan is actually accurate to how most Saiyan characters went Super (through some sort of pure emotion, such as The Power of Hate, or being The Determinator). In Gumball's case, pure rage towards the one picking on Anais.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Exaggerated. Daisy The Donkey does not appear in this episode at all, but she is the reason why Anais hates Billy (see Sequel Episode on this page to find out why).
  • Suntan Stencil: Gumball admits to Anais that he kept messing up her sunscreen when she was born to make it look like she had a facial birthmark in the shape of a goat, because he thought if she looked cursed Nicole wouldn't love her more than him.
  • Throwing Down the Gauntlet: Gumball challenges Billy to a duel and Billy accepts, though Billy gets a couple of rules wrong. He has Gumball choose the weapon when it's supposed to be the person who was challenged who gets to choose the weapon, and he chooses a different weapon than Gumball, which even Gumball knows is against the rules.
  • Take That!: Gumball pulls up a list of conflict resolution techniques off of Elmorepedia which Anais is dubious about since they don't know who wrote it. Darwin is confident because, "On the Internet, everyone is an expert".
  • Too Much Information: Ms Simian dismisses Anais' grievances with a lecture on how her Scars Are Forever, detailing how she got them all in her Time Abyss. They leave in disgust when she starts on her butt but unfortunately, Darwin is still a witness, going white with shock and falling off his three-story stilts.

Billy's shadow puppets

Billy uses shadow puppets to reveal why he doesn't like Anais, despite having no fingers. Gumball is impressed.
