Following the events of "The Nobody", Rob the cyclops is still trying to get revenge on Gumball and Darwin for leaving him in the Void, but when everything he does is so bad, it makes Wile E. Coyote's schemes look good, Gumball and Darwin decide to give Rob a villainous makeover.

Tropes:

  • Big Dam Plot: Rob's plan is to destroy the Elmore Dam. However, he misread a sign and only damaged a vending machine. Elmore doesn't even have a dam.
  • Break the Cutie: Rob smashes Darwin's plate of cookies, nearly bringing him to tears.
  • Brick Joke: Rob's snare trap reappears at the very end of the episode, where Gumball and Darwin intentionally decide to get trapped in it to boost Rob's spirit.
  • Create Your Own Villain: The basic plot of the episode involves Gumball and Darwin intentionally shaping Rob into the Big Bad he swore to be.
  • Dying Declaration of Hate: When Rob, Darwin, and Gumball think they're about to die, Darwin and Gumball tell each other how much they love each other while Rob tells them how much he still hates them both.
  • Epic Fail: Rob's plan to blow up the Elmore Dam fails because Elmore doesn't have a dam.
  • Evil Brit: Invoked. Gumball tells Rob to speak with a British accent to sound more evil. After a few adjustments, he makes Rob sound like David Warner.
  • Evil Laugh: Parodied. Rob practices his evil laugh after finishing his Evil Costume Switch Transformation Sequence, but each one comes out weird and comical. It then gets played straight at the very end where he pulls out a real threatening laugh after finally getting his spirits raised.
  • Foreshadowing: The supposed "Elmore Dam" sign is partially obscured, hinting at the reveal that there isn't a dam.
  • Gone Horribly Right: As Darwin and Gumball finally boost Rob/Dr. Wrecker's confidence by deliberately falling into one of his traps, they worry he may do something genuinely terrible.
Could it be that in creating a monster, we've created a monster?
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Rob starts out like this. Gumball and Darwin take pity on him and try to help him become a better villain, but it doesn't take very well.
  • Leitmotif: Gumball and Darwin tries to give Rob this to make him sound more evil like the Shark Theme only using the name Bob until Rob corrected them... then resuming with his real name. Hilarity Ensues when the others on the bus joins in with their own use of themes for Rob.
  • Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: Gumball and Darwin suggest that Rob should call himself Doctor as part of his supervillain name. After several Line-of-Sight Name suggestions, they finally settle on Doctor Wrecker.
  • Platonic Declaration of Love: When Gumball, Darwin, and Rob think that the dam is about to burst, killing all of them, the former two make a point of saying that they love one another.
Gumball: This is where it ends!
Darwin: Then its important that you know; I love you.
Gumball: And its important that you know; I really love you.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Rob flips out at Gumball and Darwin after following him around all day and stomps his groceries in a blind rage, which ultimately gives Gumball the idea of his villain nickname Dr. Wrecker.
  • Signs of Disrepair: Rob thinks he's at the Elmore Dam, but a bush is hiding the rest of the sign, which actually reads Elmore Car Damage Repair Center.
  • Sequel Episode: The episode is about Rob's trying to follow up on his declaration of vengeance against Gumball and Darwin in "The Nobody".
  • Skewed Priorities: Darwin considers not helping Rob fix the dam since he insulted Gumball and Darwin's cookies.
  • Special Guest: David Warner as Rob's new, "evil" voice.
  • Transformation Sequence: Spoofed. Rob's transformation into Doctor Wrecker turns out to be Gumball and Darwin throwing his costume on him. Lampshaded when Gumball says that no one wants to watch a villain actually put on his costume like a normal person.
  • Unknown Rival: The episode begins with Gumball and Darwin wondering what happened to Rob, who swore to destroy them near the end of the previous season and hasn't shown up since. Turns out Rob has been trying to destroy them the whole time, but all his traps keep failing Wile E. Coyote-style, so the pair haven't even noticed.
  • Wire Dilemma: Gumball has to figure out which wire to cut to stop an explosion. He's about to cut when he realizes he has no scissors (he was going to use his fingers) and he's not going to handle live wires with his bare hands.
