Gumball goes out to get ketchup for his hot dog — and encounters Hot Dog Guy again.

- Astonishingly Appropriate Interruption: Gumball's rap about ketchup is interrupted by running into Hot Dog Guy right as he's saying "hot dog".
- Bowdlerise: In Poland, England and Spain, the part where Gumball pokes himself in the eye to keep his finger from touching Hot Dog Guy's finger in the elevator was shortened to remove most of Gumball's agonized screaming. In Turkey, the scene was completely cut.
- Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Gumball says that being in an elevator is the most awkward experience ever, next to being in a school locker room, having dinner with your girlfriend's father, and having dinner with your girlfriend's father in a school locker room.
- Buses Are for Freaks: The town bus is so crowded that one person going in pushes another out the window on the opposite side.
- Call-Back: Gumball and Hot Dog Guy immediately recognize each other and remember the events of "The Hug".
- Chained Heat: The mall cop handcuffs Gumball and Hot Dog Guy together.
- Cringe Comedy: The whole episode is based on the awkwardness of repeatedly running into someone you don't know because you're going the same place and includes some common sitcom scenarios of two people who don't like or know each other being stuck together, like being trapped in an elevator or being handcuffed together.
- Eye Scream: Gumball accidentally pokes himself in the eye while trying to avoid pressing the elevator button at the same time as Hot Dog Guy.
- False Reassurance: When Tobias opens the elevator on Gumball and Hot Dog Guy revealing embarrassing secrets, he assures them that he didn't take a picture. It was a video.
- Furry Reminder: Hot Dog Guy reveals his dollop of mustard is a wig meant to hide a scar, and implies there's an identical scar on his other end. It's from when he was born attached to his two brothers, implicitly because they were born as sausage links.
- Happy Place: Gumball tries to go to his happy place while riding the bus. Unfortunately, he runs into Hot Dog Guy there as well.
- Mistaken from Behind: Gumball runs into a person he thinks is Hot Dog Guy from behind, but merely bears huge resemblance to him.
- Ninja Prop: Gumball and Hot Dog Guy get their path blocked by a procession of children that appears to consist of the same seven kids repeated over and over. Then the camera pulls back, showing it is the same seven kids, because they're running in a circle.
- Noble Shoplifter: Gumball takes a bottle of ketchup out of a grocery without paying in his rush to avoid Hot Dog Guy. Once the security guard that chases after him loses consciousness, Gumball leaves money for the ketchup on top of him—then realizes he overpaid, and replaces it with a smaller amount of money.
- Schlubby, Scummy Security Guard: Gumball and Hot Dog Guy's efforts to avoid running into each other leads them to run out of a store without paying for ketchup, which catches the attention of the mall cop, who handcuffs them together and demands that his job be seriously taken with the respect of a regular cop. This eventually leads to the mall cop pretending to be knocked out and unresponsive until Gumball gives in and calls him "officer" like he wants.
- Sequel Episode: This episode acts as a sequel to "The Hug". Gumball encounters Hot Dog Guy again, only this time they're trying to get away from each other (or at the very least, trying to put the uncomfortable events from the previous episode behind them).
- Squashed Flat: Gumball is squeezed through the elevator doors while handcuffed to Hot Dog Guy. He's disappointed that his wrist was the only part of him not flattened, as that would have let him escape the handcuffs.
- Shout-Out: In order to stop talking in synchronization, Gumball and Hot Dog Guy say seemingly random phrases, one of which includes "Thunderquack!".
- We Are Not Going Through That Again: At the end, Gumball has another awkward encounter with another character (Leonard Daniels, a short, lightbulb-looking man wearing underwear), who is also going in his direction. He deals with it by throwing Leonard into a trashcan.
