Laserheart... no more.

Sarah makes a popular comic where Gumball is the superhero "Laserheart", inspiring Gumball to try to act like a real superhero.

Tropes:

  • Age-Inappropriate Art: Sarah's comic has a lot of invoked Self-Fanservice, all centered on Gumball.
  • Body to Jewel: Laserheart's optimistic heart is a glowing Heart Symbol shaped crystal on his chest.
  • Boobs-and-Butt Pose: Parodied on the Laserheart comics, where the male superhero based on Gumball is constantly in weird poses that show off his pecs and ass, sometimes both at once. Darwin and later Gumball point out how impossible it is to pose like that.
Gumball: Yeah, I don't think a body can make those shapes. Onyx took his heart, not his spine.
  • Female Gaze: Almost every panel of Laserheart emphasizes the title character's butt or chest. Sarah was really indulging in invoked Self-Fanservice there.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Laserheart fights crime using the power of optimism.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Darwin spent the first half of the episode rejecting Sarah's comic and Gumball's portraying himself as a hero so he wants nothing to do with it. That is until Sarah said she was going to add him as The Smooch who is Laserheart's sidekick and he immediately changes his tone (and his outfit).
Darwin: Holy hypocrite, Laserheart! Enough bickering, we've got stuff to do!
  • Interrogated for Nothing: Gumball tries to help Charlie-Ann who is playing get her ball back, and assumes Billy hid it. He didn't.
    Gumball: WHERE IS THE BALL?!
    Billy: I don't know!
    Gumball: WHERE IS THE BALL?!
Billy: Suzy lost it, I swear!
    Gumball: SWEAR TO ME!
Billy: I just did! [Starts weeping]
    Charlie-Ann: (off-screen) I found it!
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The thief who robs from Gumball later tries to rob Nicole's car. It doesn't end well for him.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Sarah based the stories in the "Laserheart" comics on events that actually happened to Gumball, only made into epic superhero battles.
  • Padding: invoked Parodied. At one point in the comic near the end of the episode, there's a page that consists of nothing but the same picture of Laserheart and the antagonist punching each other. When Gumball and Darwin give Sarah an ugly look, she admits the issue was running short.
  • Rule of Perception: Sarah's cone is consistently portrayed as the only rigid part of her body. Therefore, when she's wearing a cosplay of herself over her cone, it's the only time we ever see her crouch or bend over flexibly.
  • Self-Fanservice: An In-Universe example with Sarah's drawings of herself as an attractive humanoid woman with an hourglass figure. She also draws Gumball/Laserheart with a muscular body and draws him in poses that focus on his pecs and butt.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When Gumball interrogates Billy, he quotes the "SWEAR TO ME!" line from Batman Begins.
    • When Gumball dumps his superhero costume in the trash can, it seems to be a mimicry of the famous panel from Spider-Man No More.
  • Stripperific: Also parodied with Laserheart, as noted by Gumball when he cosplays as the character.
  • Super Hero Episode: Gumball finds out there's a comic book superhero based on him, and tries to be like one in real life. Emphasis on "tries".
  • Take That!: Darwin takes every opportunity to mock comics. He hates superheroes because the only people interested in them are "fedora-wearing neckbeards", and also makes it a point to talk about how unrealistic their artwork is. Though considering he jumps at the opportunity to be Laser Heart's sidekick, this may just be a much a jab at people who whine about comics as it is one towards comics.
  • Very Loosely Based on a True Story: In-Universe. Sarah's comics are vaguely based on things that have happened to Gumball.
  • Write Who You Know: In-Universe. Sarah based several characters in Laserheart on Gumball, Darwin and herself.
