Gumball and Darwin try to break off their friendship with Clayton, a compulsive lying ball of clay, after they lie to Principal Brown about who trashed the boys' locker room — and incur the wrath of an Elmore Junior High student who they caused to get suspended.

Tropes:

  • Almost Kiss: Miss Simian almost kisses Principal Brown, who freaks out and jumps out the window, since it's not really Principal Brown but Clayton having shapeshifted into him.
  • Bowdlerize:
    • An entire sequence is left out in the American airing involving Gumball, Darwin, and Clayton using shock collars to stop their lying habit. Digital platforms like Hulu Plus, iTunes, and HBO Max air the American-edited version instead of the uncut United Kingdom version. In spite of this, Cartoon Network still made this deleted scene viewable on their YouTube channel.
    • In Cartoon Network Arabia, the shock collar scene is left in, but Darwin's question to Gumball about whether or not he kissed Sussie while under the influence of appendectomy anesthetics was changed to whether or not he ever stole Sussie's wallet.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: When Razor bursts into the hallway.
Clayton: Know what time it is?
Gumball: Time to change my pants?
  • A Day in the Limelight: The first one for Clayton.
  • Disaster Dominoes: Clayton stands on a sink, knocking it off and spraying water everywhere out of an exposed pipe. He tries to stop it by putting his mouth over the pipe, but that just sends him flying around the room, destroying a bunch of lockers. Then everything catches on fire for no reason.
  • Epic Fail: Clayton manages to cause 20,000 dollars worth of damage to the locker room in the span of 30 seconds.
  • Facial Composite Failure: Gumball makes up a vague description of the person that destroyed the bathroom. Going off this, Principal Brown uses it to make a crude drawing of a sailboat.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: You can tell when the episode is depicting one of Clayton's lies whenever he starts doing inexplicably awesome things and things get more crazy than usual.
  • Hypocrite: Gumball and Darwin get angry at Clayton for lying, despite having lied themselves in the past.
    • Hypocrite Has a Point: Despite lying themselves in several episodes, Gumball and Darwin are right that Clayton's lying is out of control, as it gets to the point that Clayton impersonates both of them and lies to the other in order to avoid getting in trouble with them.
  • Indulgent Fantasy Segue: Clayton's stories constantly take this form.
  • Mistaken for an Imposter: Clayton runs out of the room crying and Miss Simian immediately bursts in ordering to know who caused it. Her unusual amount of concern leads Darwin and Gumball to assume it's just Clayton in disguise again and shove food in her face, but it really was her.
  • Pet the Dog: After Clayton leaves the cafeteria, Miss Simian bursts in demanding to know who hurt his feelings.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: For no apparent reason, Darwin and Gumball didn't get to change into their clothes when they're sent to Principal Brown's office from the locker room, so he asks them to put some clothes on when they're done.
  • Pressure Point: Clayton knocks Tina out by squeezing her shoulder in one of his fantasies.
  • The Real Remington Steele: Gumball claims the damage to the bathroom was done by someone else, but the only detail he comes up with is that their face looked like a skull. Turns out there's someone who actually fit that description and was suspended. However, he isn't as physically intimidating as they figured and isn't mad about it, he's happy for getting suspended because it gave his band more "street cred".
  • Time for Plan B: In a scene that turns out to be imaginary, Clayton is broken into pieces and claims his literal "Plan B" is to turn into a swarm of bees.
  • Trivial Title: The Skull guy himself doesn't show up until near the end of the episode and only shows up in a few scenes. Instead, a majority of the episode is focused on Gumball and Darwin getting Clayton to stop lying.
