When Mr. Robinson is kicked out of the house by his wife, Gumball lets him stay in his attic which causes Richard to think the house is haunted.

Tropes

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Nicole insists ghosts aren't real, despite living in a World of Weirdness where a ghost is one of her sons' classmates.
  • Bedsheet Ghost: Mr. Robinson is hidden under a sheet, but this simply makes Richard think he's the ghost.
  • Bowdlerise: Versions shown in Cartoon Network Asia, Australia, and New Zealand all have similar edits done to this episode:
    • The part where Gumball and Darwin electrocute Mr. Robinson with Richard's Electrofat machine and causing a power outage was shortened in the Australia/New Zealand cut, but completely cut out in the Asian version (which makes the power outage part inexplicable).
    • The flashback of Mr. Robinson laughing at Darwin being slammed by the automated doors at the grocery store was shortened in the CN Asian, Australian, and New Zealand versions.
    • The part where Gumball and Darwin pretend to be Mr. Robinson to get his wife to take him back was cut to remove the line, "Wanna make out?" in all three versions.
  • Bridal Carry: Mr. Robinson makes up with his wife, then dramaticly asks her to carry him inside this way, and she happily complies.
  • Continuity Nod: Gumball finds Richard's electro-fat workout device from "The Car" (which aired after this episode, but was written earlier).
  • Creator Cameo: Gumball's picture of a bulldog is signed by Mic Graves, the show's director.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Mr. Robinson.
  • Dramatic Gun Cock: Richard cocks a vacuum cleaner tube like it was a gun.
  • Face Palm: Darwin face palms accidentally when he tries to slap Mr. Robinson's back when he's not there.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Nicole steps in a second rope trap which would have been in plain view of when she was stuck in the first.
  • G-Rated Sex: Apparently, arguing is this for Mr. and Mrs. Robinson.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Richard is offended that Mr. Robinson called him out on his cheap tie and idiocy and adds that, unlike Mr. Robinson, he treats his wife better... not realizing that Nicole is trying to free herself from one rope trap Richard placed and ends up stuck in another.
  • Kicking My Own Butt: When Darwin and Gumball realize Mr. Robinson enjoys the suffering of others, they try beating themselves up to cheer him up.
  • Magic Skirt: Nicole spends a good part of the episode hanging upside down in one of the traps Richard has set for "the ghost". Her gray pleated skirt doesn't fall over.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After getting beaten repeatedly by Gumball and Richard, Mr. Robinson finally snaps and tries to break their stuff, earning back his wife's favor.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Anais sees Gumball had been keeping Mr. Robinson in the attic, tells them that what they're doing is considered illegal and immediately decides she wants nothing to do with it.
  • Vandalism Backfire: Played with when Mr. Robinson tries to destroy the Watterson's stuff, like their shed, deck chair, and vacuum. It back fires because he's simply too weak to damage any of them, and gets his leg stuck in the deck chair.
  • We Want Our Jerk Back!: Gumball and Darwin eventually find out that the whole reason Mr. Robinson hid himself in their attic is that he was depressed after his wife kicked him out since he was no longer a Grumpy Old Man and thus lost his "spark". Realizing this, Gumball and Darwin then try to make him look angry to impress Mrs. Robinson, only for her to immediately see through it and strut off. Feeling more dejected than ever, he tries to cover himself in a bedsheet which makes Richard mistake him for a ghost and attack him. After getting hit by both Gumball and Richard in the process, he snaps and gets his anger back, winning Mrs. Robinson's love back and saving his marraige.
