Recap / The Adventures Of Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius S 2 E 8 Sheens Brain

Go To

When Sheen flunks a history test and risks being held back a year, he asks Jimmy to help him study. Jimmy soon realizes that conventional techniques are useless with Sheen's short attention span, and resorts to technology: a Brain Gain helmet that increases Sheen's IQ to genius level. The helmet works too well, though: after acing his next test, Sheen develops amazing mental powers and an ego to boot, and declares himself overlord of Retroville. Now Jimmy and Carl have to stop their friend...

This episode provides examples of:

  • 1-Dimensional Thinking: When Sheen says he will "spare" Jimmy and Carl, he takes a giant bowling ball from a sign and literally bowls them over with it. If Jimmy and Carl thought better, the could have avoided getting hit by the ball by running to either the right or left to get to the sidewalk.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Sheen in his non-enhanced state, as usual. Indeed, it kickstarts the whole plot.
  • Blasphemous Boast: When Sheen declares himself to be a god.
  • Brain Critical Mass: As his intelligence keeps increasing, Sheen develops both telepathy and telekinesis.
  • Downer Beginning: The episode begins with Sheen failing his test and having to face the risk of being left back if he fails the next.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Libby may have been with Sheen for shallow reasons, but she could not tolerate him using his powers to torment others or his own friends. She finally ditches him when he declares himself to be a god.
  • Failure Montage: Jimmy giving Sheen a series of multiplication questions and Sheen keeps getting distracted, prompting Carl to shock him whenever his mind wanders.
  • F--: The episode starts with Sheen getting an F quadruple minus on his history test.
Jimmy and Carl: Quadruple F MINUS?!
Sheen: How was I supposed to know that Ultra Lord wasn't the father of our country? That's what it says on the Ultra Lord website!
Jimmy: Wait, didn't you write the Ultra Lord website?
Sheen: Your point? [Jimmy stares at him blankly] Oh.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: It's only seen for a brief moment, but looking at the close-up of Sheen's history test reveals that nearly every one of his answers was something related to Ultra Lord. Not only that, but his answers are rife with misspellings.
Q: Who is the father of our country?
A: Ultra Lord is the father of the hole plannit
Q: What famous speech begins with "Four score and seven years ago..."?
A: Episode 56-4 when Ultra Lord beet Megalon playing chess. His score was 4.
Q: Where was thr [sic] first national capitol located?
A: On Plannit Xarctan where Ultra Lord goes on vaycayshun.
Q: How did the Liberty Bell get its crack?
A: [Blocked by Sheen's thumb] dragon [blocked by Sheen's thumb] to use it as a hat [blocked by Sheen's thumb] small.
Q: [Blocked by Sheen's thumb] first United States flag?
    A: U[blocked by Sheen's thumb]er of corse
Q: What year was the Declaration of Independence [blocked by Sheen's thumb]

Q: How many stars are on the first United States flag?
    A: 21 - one [cut off]
  • A God Am I: What Sheen ultimately declares.
  • Gold Digger: A slight example; Libby only agrees to become Sheen's queen after he tells her that "portraits will depict [her] in the finest robes and jewelry".
  • Gone Horribly Right: The Brain Gain helmet not only makes Sheen smarter, it causes him to become a power-hungry megalomaniac and makes his IQ grow to infinity. It gets worse when Jimmy explains to Carl that if Sheen's IQ is not drained back to normal, his head will explode.
  • Gotta Pass the Class: Sheen is in danger of being held back if he fails another test. Tutoring doesn't work, so Jimmy uses one of his inventions to make Sheen smarter.
  • Insufferable Genius: Smart!Sheen starts treating everyone around him like idiots because they aren’t as smart as him. He soon gets past "insufferable" and well into "megalomaniacal" when he used his powers to hurt others.
  • "Jar of Jellybeans" Contest: Sheen uses his newfound intelligence to accurately solve one of these. However, Sam refuses to give him the prize as he refuses to believe Sheen could guess the correct answer without cheating.
Sheen: I said give me my free sundae!
Sam: And I said there's no way you could've known there were 12,082 beans in that jar without cheating, yeah!
Sheen: I told you, I used a complex algorithm, based on the dimensions of the jar!
Sam: Uh-huh. Yesterday, you thought seashells were money. Today you're using algorithms?
Sheen: Yesterday, I wasn't a genius! Now, gimme my ice cream, monkey boy!
  • Mind over Matter: Sheen ends up developing this ability as a result of his increasing IQ.
  • My Brain Is Big: Exaggerated. Sheen's head keeps growing until it overtakes the rest of his body. It grows so big that it's in danger of exploding.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Sheen's reaction after he realizes he's hurt Jimmy and Carl, and what convinces him to renounce his intelligence.
  • My Skull Runneth Over: Sheen's head is in danger of exploding if his brain gets big enough.
  • Oh, Crap!: Jimmy when he sees Sheen's head somehow grown.
Jimmy: I found the Brain Drain helmet and got here as fast as I – Leapin' leptons! What happened to Sheen's head!?!
  • The Omniscient: What Sheen comes close to becoming.
  • Race Against the Clock: Jimmy has to drain Sheen's brain back to the way he was before his IQ grows so much that his head explodes.
  • Reality Warper: Sheen's new intelligence boost gives him this ability.
  • Rouge Angles of Satin: Carl was making "Amigos" nametags, but he accidentally adds a P to the end, so he dubs himself, Jimmy and Sheen "The Three Amigops".
  • Rubik's Cube: International Genius Symbol: In a montage showing the effects of the the brain boost, Sheen solves a Rubik's cube in seconds, blindfolded.
  • Screw Learning, I Have Phlebotinum!: Sheen is never seen studying after having his IQ boosted, yet he keeps spouting science facts (what passes for "science" facts in the Jimmy Neutron universe, anyway) throughout the episode.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Libby leaves Sheen in a huff after he declares himself as a god.
  • Smart People Play Chess: After his brain boost, we see Sheen beat Jimmy at chess, Goddard at 3D chess and Carl at Snakes and Ladders.
  • Totem Pole Trench: A mecha variant is used, with the Ultra Lord costume Jimmy and Carl rent in order to convince Sheen to drain his brain. Jimmy controls the upper half of the suit and provides the voice, while Carl controls the bottom half.
  • Wham Line:
    • "You disappoint me, Jimmy."
    • "I control the winds, and I will rain fire down from the heavens. Goodbye Sheen the Overlord, hello Sheen the GOD!!!"
  • Your Head Asplode: What would eventually happen to Sheen if he doesn't get his IQ reduced.
