Recap / The Addams Family S 1 E 16 The Addams Family Meets The Undercover Man

Go To

Pugsley's radio transmissions to his friends across the world catch the notice of the US government, who assume that something wicked is afoot. Agent Hollister tries to infiltrate the house by deputizing a mailman and a plumber as undercover agents, but the reality of the Addams house may prove more than any of them can handle.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Bullet Hole Spelling: A variation; Gomez "draws" a picture with bullets and asks Morticia to guess who it is. It turns out to be one of the Addamses' many offscreen relatives, Uncle Flub.
  • Commonality Connection: Morticia is pleased when she learns that Hollister's agent number is 13 and comments that it's the same number as her perfume, Quagmire #13.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: Agent Hollister apparently had a nervous breakdown after entering the Addams' house to get a confession over a crime they weren't committing and seeing how intensely odd all of them are. His ending letter to them comes from a rest home (not a place where a man in his prime would normally be).
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: When he's preparing to enter the Addams manor, the mailman assures Agent Hollister that he'll do fine, because he's seen all the James Bond movies.
  • Trauma Button: After dealing with the creepiness of the Addams mansion and nearly getting burned by one of their letters, Briggs the mailman says he never even wants to see mail again.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Everything Briggs, Conkey, and Hollister went through trying to get the Addamses to confess to spy business was for nothing, because all of the messages were just Pugsley chatting with his friends.
