Recap / The A Team S 1 E 7 The Rabbit Who Ate Las Vegas

Go To

The A-Team is hired by two college students who are worried about the disappearance of their professor. Professor Warfel has come up with a system that he believes will allow anyone who understands it to win big at gambling; however, he disappeared from Las Vegas shortly after mailing them a letter with a photo and his first winnings, and nobody knows what happened to him. The A-Team's efforts to rescue the professor get them caught up with the Vegas underworld — and accused of the murder of mob boss Gianni Christian.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Blackface: Hannibal uses it as part of his room service disguise. B.A. is not happy about it.
  • Bridal Carry: Face carries Amy over the threshold of a hotel room while they're masquerading as a honeymoon couple. He sets her down quickly once the bellhop leaves and remarks that it's no wonder that he never married.
  • Destination Defenestration: In one of the very rare deaths in the series, Gianni Christian is thrown out of the penthouse window into a fountain.
  • I Have You Now, My Pretty: In a rare (and distasteful) heroic example, Murdock makes as though he's going to assault Christian's old girlfriend Elly if she doesn't tell Special Agent Tony Vincent/Hannibal what he wants to know.
  • Klingon Promotion: Gianni's second in command Jackie Martell was looking for a way to kill his boss so as to get his job. The appearance of some strangers in town who had threatened Gianni just made it easier.
  • Nobody Can Die: Averted. Gianni Christian's second in command pushes him out a window and he's actively reported to be dead. Unfortunately, the A-Team gets blamed for it.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Did the fall from the window kill Gianni Christian or was he already dead when thrown out the window?
  • Room Disservice: Hannibal approaches Martell and the other mob figures disguised as a waiter. They barely even look at him and don't realize something's wrong until too late. After Hannibal reveals himself, Murdock emerges from under the rolling table's cloth.
  • Slipping a Mickey: Implied; Professor Warfel says that before he got captured, he started feeling dizzy, despite not having drunk anything stronger than orange juice. He went to lie down and woke up in one of the villains' houses.
  • Standard Female Grab Area: When Elly tries to escape after Hannibal "reveals" himself as a federal hit man, she's met at the door by B.A., who grabs her by the arm as he drags her back.
  • Undercover as Lovers: The team make good use of Amy's gender and acting skills, with her first masquerading as Tony Vincent/Hannibal's girlfriend when he checks into the hotel and then checking into a different hotel under a different identity as Face's bride.
  • Vehicular Sabotage: Hannibal (as Tony Vincent) threatens Gianni that he might blow up his car with him inside if he doesn't give him Professor Warfel.
