Recap / The 7 DS 1 E 19 A The Very Important Thingy

Go To

Queen Delightful has Doc invent a Thingy so that her upcoming announcement can be heard even in the next kingdom over. While Doc tries to find someplace quiet to concentrate on the plans for the Thingy, which leads to him working on the plans in the Tranquil Desert, the other 7D turn to Lord Starchbottom to teach them how to be quiet.

The episode has the following tropes

  • Angrish: Lord Starchbottom falls under this when the 7D (sans Doc) fail to be quiet.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Doc wanted peace and quiet to work on the Thingy. Well, he got it alright.
  • The Bet: Lord Starchbottom bets that if the 6D can be quiet until the sand gets to the bottom of the hourglass, he'll handstand in a tub of pudding for a full hour.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": A variation of it. Grumpy can be heard saying "Quit yapping" to the others.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: The queen invites the 7D to have some squid-liver sandwiches much to their disgust. And then she changes it to milk and cookies.
  • Blame Game: When the scene cuts back to the 6D trying to be quiet:
Sleepy: [to Sneezy] You talked first.
    Sneezy: Did not! Dopey did!
Bashful: Don't start with me Grumpster!
  • Brick Joke: Bashful states that inventing something for the queen would make him nervous. Later on, Doc stated that he was worried about disappointing the queen.
  • Captain Oblivious: The 6D were oblivious to what message Starchbottom was trying to tell them, let alone the frustrated expressions he's giving them.
  • Continuity Nod: The Queen's yodelling song is heard again.
  • Distaff Counterpart: In another kingdom, there's apparently a female version of the 7D.
  • Does Not Like Spam: It's implied that Starchbottom does not like prune pudding.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Doc creates a large bullhorn(thing) to call the rest of the 7D back home, Happy states that he already invented the Thingy for the queen.
  • Failed a Spot Check: The 6D fail to see that Starchy is clearly frustrated that they can't keep their mouths shut.
  • From Bad to Worse: When the 6D ask Starchbottom for help on how to be quiet. It starts out okay until the situation leads to frustration, confusion, anger and a lot of noise.
  • Hiccup Hijinks: Dopey briefly gets the hiccups after Sneezy bumps into him.
  • Hypocritical Humour: Grumpy scolds the other dwarves for interrupting Doc, but doesn't stop Happy from singing the "Thinking Song".
  • "I Can't Look!" Gesture: While trying to keep quiet, Bashful is seen pulling his hat over his head and sinking in his seat to avoid looking at the hourglass.
  • Intelligence Equals Isolation: When the 6D's rowdiness prevents Doc from being able to hear himself think, he goes all the way out to the desert to be able to draw up an invention. And that's when he starts missing the other dwarfs' voices.
  • Irony:
  • Is This Thing Still On?: A variation of it. Grumpy asks if Starchy turned over the hourglass much to the other dwarves chagrin.
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet: When Doc tries to work in the Tranquil Desert.
  • The Last Straw: For Doc, it was the others making too much noise (at the beginning of the episode) and towards the end of the episode it was too quiet.
  • Leitmotif: Happy's thinking song is heard throughout the episode.
  • Meaningful Look: The 6D give Doc a look trying to tell him that they learned to be quiet.
  • Only Sane Man: Lord Starchbottom.
  • The Quiet Game: How Starchy tries to teach the 6D how to be quiet.
  • Rule of Three:
    • There were three animals singing Happy's song.
    • Doc looks in three places to work in but gets interrupted.
    • Anyone who speaks into the bullhorn, the last line echoes three times.
  • Running Gag:
    • Lord Starchbottom making gibberish sounds.
    • Lord Starchbottom calling the 6D "the 7D" and then Sleepy correcting him.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Many TV guides dub "The Very Important Thingy" as "The Very Important Thing"
  • They Just Dont Get It: The 6D didn't know the idea of being quiet and are pretty bad at it.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: When Starchy has to do a handstand in a tub full of prune pudding for a full hour.
