Chapter 9: L POV

L Lawliet feigns sleep in an unfamiliar bed as he hears unfamiliar voices. When someone shakes his shoulder, he acts as though he's stirring as he takes in the boy who woke him, with gold hair in a ponytail and gold eyes. The boy falls back in shock, yelling "Demon!" L moves to the edge of the top bunk he was lying on and looks at the other two in the room: an androgynous boy with blue hair and eyes, and a bald and average-looking but well-built man. L notes both of them as being more than meets the eye, and elects to stay cautious.

A knock on the door draws their attention, and the bald man opens it to see Korra and Fujioka there, L noting the former's martial arts proficiency and the latter's androgyny. Fujioka asks if they're OK, and L notices the blue-haired boy flinch at the voice before the gold-haired man defends himself for being scared, pointing at L. L resigns himself to their reactions, and the blue-haired boy asks if the girls know what's going on. At their denial, L speaks for the first time, musing on the circumstances until the bald man asks him to shorten the explanation. L simply says that there are others kidnapped and they'll need to work together to return home, though privately considers the unlikely possibility of a traitor among them.

As they begin introducing themselves, L notes how they don't seem wary of a killer, despite Kira being the biggest news in Japan, and that despite Korra's apparent Inuit heritage and Chinese accent, she speaks perfect English like all of them. Furthermore, the gold-haired boy's eyes look unnatural but not fake, while the blue-haired boy's hair doesn't seem dyed. L reflects on this but pays attention to everyone introducing themselves: the bald man as Saitama, the gold-haired boy as Edward Elric, and the blue-haired boy as Nagisa. L gives his pseudonym Ryuzaki before a scream from outside leads all of them to rush out, along with those in the other rooms.
