Acting as a fake Flamekeeper, Murphy helps Ontari convince the Grounders to submit to her rule; she later forces him to have sex with her. Pike discovers Monty's involvement in the rescue of Kane and Sinclair, forcing him to flee Arkadia. He rejoins Kane, Octavia and a captive Bellamy at the dropship, but Pike's men capture them and Bellamy offers to lead them to the rest of Kane's insurgents. Instead he leads them to the Grounder blockade and hands Pike over to them. Meanwhile ALIE's influence spreads throughout Arkadia, and Raven enlists Abigail and Jasper to help her destroy the neural blocker inside her. ALIE restores Raven's pain and bad memories to torture her into submission, and then takes control of her body and slits her wrists to coerce Abigail into taking a neural blocker. Jasper, captured by Jaha's acolytes, escapes to find the whole of Arkadia in ALIE's thrall, but manages to escape with an unconscious Raven, encountering Clarke on the way out.
Tropes
- Armor-Piercing Question: Kane asks Bellamy if he betrayed Pike because it was the right thing to do or to save Octavia. Bellamy tries to brush it off but Kane insists and tells him that the answer to that question truly matters.
- The Bad Guy Wins: By the end of the episode A.L.I.E. has almost completely taken over Arkadia and is now moving to the next phase of her plans.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: A.L.I.E has successfully gotten all the residents of Arkadia, minus the resistance fighters, Pike, Jasper and Clarke, to take the chip and they are now under her control.
- Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Ontari coerces Murphy into having sex with her through threat, while he is chained up. Murphy seems to like her but isn't quite willing considering he's in a relationship with Emori. The scene is played for casual kinky sex. Now imagine if Ontari was a man and Murphy was a woman.
- It is later acknowledged that he did not consider this a consensual experience.
- Heel–Face Turn: Played With Bellamy shows that he is not on Pike's side anymore when he sets him up to be captured by the Grounders. However as Kane notes his actions seem to be motivated more by his desire to protect Octavia then actually feeling sorry about what he did and he will still be lost until he reconciles with what he's done.
- Kick the Dog: When Jasper almost runs into Clarke at the end of the episode as he's escaping Arcadia he seems very quick to fall into his old habits, snidely asking her if she's forgotten the meaning of death when she finds out Lincoln's died, tells her to shut up when she tries to explain the Luna situation and calling her the angel of death when Arcadia's forces start shooting up their jeep.
- Mind Rape: Also doubles as Cold-Blooded Torture when A.L.I.E uses Raven's memories to torture her into submitting to her fully.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Octavia gives Bellamy one when she and the others return from Arkadia after witnessing Lincoln's death.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Jasper after discovering that everybody is under A.L.I.E's control takes Raven and decides to get out of dodge.
