The story so far: we're slightly losing in the public sports festival.
Kishika takes up the balloon sword round, with Kiraisugi's contestant being ordered to eliminate Sukisugi first. Her banter with Kishika enables a sneak attack courtesy of Dochikaratoiebasugi-chou's competitor while Kishika eliminates Futsuu-chou's competitor. Kiraisugi runs the three-legged race with an elastic cord, but Kusuri's failure to keep rhythm angers Chiyo to the point of scaring Kusuri across the finish line first.
For the giant ball rolling race, Sukisugi's ball is extra bouncy, causing Momiji and Mimimi to get stuck to it and roll out of control into first place. The cavalry battle comes down to Sukisugi versus Kiraisugi, the latter owing their success to non-slip spray, but everyone cheers on Karane, with Hakari's insults provoking her into taking the win. As for the men's division, Sukisugi comes out on top due to Rentarou and the dads' love giving them strength. The folk dance round is won by Sukisugi owing to the chemistry between the contestants.
However, the men's division loses the final round, a 19-player relay race, due to Rentarou pushing himself so far in response to the mayor's trash talking of the girls, leaving Kiraisugi one point ahead. Intending to secure a win, Kiraisugi-chou's mayor orders Sukisugi's tea spiked with Serious Kids Beer, with Mei's refreshments sparing Rentarou's girlfriends from drinking it. The mayor then orders salad oil be added to the girls' baton, but the official accidentally oils everyone's batons. Motivated by Rentarou's determination, all the girls resolve to win the final round.
Tropes:
- Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: Kiraisugi-chou was already ahead of Sukisugi when the mayor ordered the latter's baton oiled for the relay race. Had he not done so, the other batons would not have been oiled.
- Too Clever by Half: In the balloon sword round, Kiraisugi's contestant was too focused on Kishika to notice Dochikaratoiebasugi-chou's competitor approaching her.
