Grandma's Dead is the twenty-third episode of the first season of That '70s Show,' and originally aired on June 12, 1999.

Grandma Foremen dies in Eric's Vista Cruiser after he yells at her; Red fights with his brother, Marty, after the funeral.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Red bursts out laughing upon learning that Eric's last words to Bernice were "It wouldn't kill you to be nice".
Red: That could only happen to you, son!
  • Big "OMG!": Kelso does this twice in a row after he accidentally touches Bernice's dead body.
  • Correlation/Causation Gag: Eric calls out Bernice for being openly mean and nasty to Kitty. He then flat-out says "I don't think being nice for a whole day would kill you." She promptly slumps dead onto his shoulder.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Kitty has a moment after Eric comes home from a bar with a black eye:
Kitty: My son, getting into a bar fight like some kind of...bar fighter!
  • Heroic BSoD: After his grandmother dies in the car next to him, Eric wanders home in shock and starts shooting basketball hoops in the yard so he won't have to go inside and break the news.
  • I Wished You Were Dead: Eric believes this after Bernice dies, since the last thing he said to her was that it wouldn't kill her to be nice for one day.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: We learn in this episode where Red's nickname came from: his mother.
Red (choked up): She was the first one to call me "Red."
  • Tempting Fate: Played for Drama; while driving his grandmother home, Eric tells her that it wouldn't kill her to be nicer, and then she dies right then and there. Eric spends most of the episode in a horrified state of guilt and shock.
