Tropes
- All There in the Manual: According to writers in later interviews, Cameron's shotgun did such damage to Cromartie's head because it was loaded with depleted uranium shotgun slugs.
- Battle Discretion Shot: When Sarah, locked in the trunk of Cromartie's car, hears his shoot out with the Mexican police. Later subverted when we get to see the fight explicitly in his point-of-view section.
- Blood-Stained Glass Windows: The Connors lure Cromartie into the Mexican town's church and kill him.
- Call-Back: The episode title is Cromartie's first line of dialogue in the pilot.
- Contrived Coincidence: John, Riley, and Ellison happen to jump into Cromartie's car to get away from him, which has Sarah locked in the trunk.
- Cooldown Hug : After Sarah has her meltdown, John grabs her and hangs on for dear life while she sobs.
- Crucified Hero Shot: Cromartie gets one as Sarah and Derek open fire on him in the church.
- Dead-Hand Shot: Cromartie's hand twitching before John gives the coup de grace.
- Guns Akimbo : Cromartie in the church, shooting at Derek on his right and Sarah on his left.
- Ironic Echo : When Cromartie grabs Sarah by the throat and asks her where John is, it's a Call-Back to their first meeting in the pilot."You don't know."
- No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Cromartie finds out where the Connors live thanks to Sarah sparing the last of the burglars in the previous episode.
- Noodle Incident: Whatever the Connors got up to in the Mexican town that made various people remember them negatively.
- Not Worth Killing: Cromartie ignoring the unarmed suspect in the police station and the cop who John knocked out and handcuffed to the cell door.
- Percussive Therapy: Sarah finally cathartically breaks down while smashing Cromartie's chip with the butt of her assault rifle.
- Playing Sick: Riley lures the guard to open the cell by pretending to break down and to be frightened of John.
- Punk in the Trunk: Cromartie locks Sarah in the trunk of his car, after she jumps out of it at high speed.
- "Rashomon"-Style: Different sections of the episode are from different characters' points of view, including some repetitions of the same events.
- Ship Tease: Cameron stripping down to a small tank top and short-shorts to get into bed with John, before talking to him about how in the future they often "talk" at night about how lonely he is.
- Shout-Out: It may be unintentional, but the gang of assassins looking down on their target before one of them shoots the target in the head looks an awful lot like Kill Bill.
- Spaghetti Western: The genre is homaged in the build-up to the battle in the church and the battle itself.
- Wham Episode: Cromartie, who has been acting as the primary direct threat to the Connors throughout the show, is finally killed by them.
