Plot
While attempting to flee Los Angeles, Michelle is kidnapped by Cromartie. John decides to hang out with his new friend Riley but Sarah orders Cameron to watch inconspicuously.
Tropes
- Bound and Gagged: Michelle, who is tied to a chair and gagged by Cromartie, who's taken her as a captive to use as bait for Sarah and John.
- Cut Phone Lines: After listening to enough of Sarah's and John's conversation to recognise their identity check, Cromartie cuts off their communications by blowing up the mobile phone tower.
- Damsel in Distress: Michelle, Charlie's wife who is kidnapped and held captive by Cromartie.
- Dead Artists Are Better: Because of George Laszlo's false reputation as a mass cop killer, a crappy fantasy B-movie that he starred in has become a DVD bestseller out of prurient fascination.
- Doom Magnet: Michelle gets abducted, terrorised, and later unintentionally killed purely because of her husband's association with the Connors.
- Forgot I Couldn't Swim: A literal example when Cromartie jumps into the sea after John on the spur of the moment, failing to remember that he's too heavy to swim.
- Glowing Eyes of Doom: We get an almost-subliminal hint of red glow from Cromartie's eyes as he sinks to the bottom of the sea.
- I Have Your Wife: Well, actually your ex-boyfriend's wife. It's if anything more effective, since Cromartie knows or suspects that Sarah will feel guilty about getting an innocent bystander in trouble.
- Pet the Dog: After carjacking a mobile phone repairer in the desert, Sarah leaves him with a bottle of water.
- The Plan : Cromartie lures Sarah and Derek to the desert, so he can stalk John. It works.
- Sacrificial Lion: Michelle gets killed off by pure bad luck when the mobile phone tower falls on the building.
- Stylistic Suck : We get to see a clip of a George Laszlo barbarian film, also a Shout-Out to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
- Take That! : John makes a disparaging remark about network television.
- Trap Is the Only Option: But Sarah feels obliged to rescue Michelle, and Derek feels obliged to back her up.
- Walk, Don't Swim: Cromartie is implied to walk ashore underwater after jumping off the pier.
- Wire Dilemma: Cromartie leaves Michelle tied to a chair with a movement-sensitive bomb attached to her. Subverted since the bomb's a fake intended only to keep Sarah and Derek distracted while Cromartie goes after John.
