Recap / Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann S 1 E 26 Lets Go Buddy

Go To

Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann emerges to destroy one of the Anti Spiral battleships, causing the other to attack with planets, but Simon hurls the Gurren boomerang at this attack by ripping through the barrage. Suddenly missiles hit Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann by neutralizing the probability of defending against it. The voice of the Anti-Spiral explains that the growth of the Galaxy is proportional to that of life and evolution is about developing forms gaining that power, but since it is uncontrollable, it will cause a black hole that will reduce the universe itself to nothingness, and that is the Spiral Nemesis. Simon realizes that the Anti-Spiral speaks the truth but he knows Nia is waiting for him and swears to protect both her AND the universe.

After using a weapons system to counter the enemy ship's warping capabilities, Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann destroys the other battleship. Now that there is no more interference, Simon is able to find Nia.Suddenly the Anti-Spiral shows up to trap Team Dai-Gurren in a multversal trap in which they will remain as long as they retain their intelligence. Not even Boota's Lordgenome-accelarated evolution into humanoid form is enough to prevent him and Lordgenome from falling prey to the same fate as the rest of Team Dai Gurren.

Elsewhere, a younger Simon drills tunnels alongside Kamina, only this Kamina is a cowardly jewel thief. It takes a vision of the true Kamina to remind Simon of what his drill is meant for: to pierce the heavens, which he declares by punching the false Kamina away. The true Kamina tells Simon to not let himself be mislead by possibilities and Simon agrees turning back into his older self which Kamina notes is taller than him.Once the two bid each other farewell, Simon uses his core drill to transform into Gurren Lagann and take off. Soon Yoko (living the life of a bounty hunter), Viral (with a wife and daughter - an impossibility for beastmen like himself) and the rest of Team Dai Gurren join him.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Spiral interrogates Nia as to why would she oppose him, causing her pain. All of a sudden, the ring in her hand blinks. Pointing it at the Anti-Spiral, it glows, and from that glow, Gurren Lagann emerges.

Simon has come to Nia's rescue.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Lotus-Eater Machine
  • Nightmare of Normality: Simon finds himself back in his teenage years in a world where Kamina is still alive and they're petty jewel thieves rather than the badass mech pilots and revolutionaries who successfully helped humanity rise from the underground depths. What's more, the dream version of Kamina is a pathetic bootlicker who cowers at the first sign of trouble. Eventually the spirit of the real Kamina arrives and helps Simon break through the illusion.
  • Suddenly Voiced: Boota after evolving into a humanoid.
  • Tragic Dream: Viral wishes to have a family but can't due to his beastman nature keeping him from reproducing.
