Simon and Kamina help out Yoko's village. Soon Kamina goes hunting with Yoko. As he seeks the animal he shot down, he is confronted by a beastman named Viral. Despite their best efforts, neither Simon's Lagann nor Kamina's newly modified Gurren are any match for Viral's gunmen Enki.The following day, Simon and Kamina again confront Viral. Kamina decides to place Lagann with Simon on top of his own Gurren, resulting in a new kind of mecha - Gurren Lagann, which produces drills to defeat Enki, taking its crested helmet in the process.
Afterwards, Simon and Kamina, joined by Yoko and the flamboyant engineering genius Leeron, venture forth into the wasteland.
Tropes in this episode:
- It Only Works Once: Sneak attacks, as noted by Viral. Kamina and Simon try the same Fastball Special technique that worked last episode, only for Viral to strike Lagann down, expecting something like this.
- Lock and Load: Parodied. Yoko tosses Kamina a pistol and asks if he knows how to use it. He cocks it and acts like he does. Then he uses it as a bludgeon, acting surprised when it fires...at him because he was holding it backwards.
