Donatello's issues with the Vizioso mafia and Don Vizioso threatens a mission from the Turtles.
- Aesop Amnesia: Donnie seems to have forgotten that the last time he butted heads with Leo to this extent, the Kraang wound up launching their invasion of New York.
- Back from the Dead: Kavaxas is successful at retrieving Shredder's heart, and uses it and the Kuro Kabuto to revive Shredder at the end of the episode.
- Blade Reflection: Donnie has Vizioso dead to rights, and is about to spear him with his bo-staff... and then he sees his crazed reflection in the naginata blade
. It's this, and realizing how close he was to crossing the line, that finally snaps him out of his Revenge Before Reason. - Big Bad Wannabe: Don Vizioso. At the beginning of the episode, he voices his plans to take over New York's criminal underworld now that Shredder is out of the picture, and boasts that he'll get rid of anyone who gets in his way. But after both the Turtles and the Foot Clan try to take Shredder's heart from him, the Don makes plans to skip the country entirely. Karai even lampshades this, pointing out that Vizioso is just a "minor inconvenience".
- Character Catchphrase: The Hammer says "Hey-yo" quite a bit, even as he is being killed by Kavaxas.
- Dragon with an Agenda: Kavaxas wants to revive The Shredder, but purely for his own reasons.
- He threatens to suck out the souls of Bebop and Rocksteady if they fail to retrieve The Shredder's heart, something that Tiger Claw doesn't fail to notice. He explicitly states that Kavaxas is unusually invested in resurrecting The Shredder.
- Kavaxas pretends to ignore Tiger Claw's comment, but we see a Psychotic Smirk on face when he turns away.
- At the end of episode when The Foot successfully retrieves The Shredder's heart, Kavaxas lovingly strokes it, and comments on how much anger and power is within it. When Tiger Claw commands him to hand it over, he does so very reluctantly.
- Didn't Think This Through: The Turtles and their allies decide to steal the Seal of the Ancients away from Tiger Claw, hoping to take control of Kavaxas themselves. While Karai, Mikey, Raph and April successfully get it away, they quickly realize they have no idea how to use it.
- Diving Save: Karai jumps towards April and pushes her out of the way just as she is about to be burned by Kavaxas. Luckily, neither of them are burned.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Don Vizioso's henchmen are visibly disgusted by the fact that their boss keeps Shredder's heart on his dinner table, and one of them even offers to remove it. Visiozo acts like he can't hear them complaining.
- Family-Unfriendly Death: Don Vizioso's right hand man, "The Hammer", suffers the same fate as Tatsu in "The Forgotten Swordsman".
- Friendly Fire: Bebop accidentally knocks Rocksteady out while battling Donnie and Leo.
- I'm a Humanitarian: Don Vizioso intends to eat Shredder's heart, believing it will give him Shredder's strength.
- Never My Fault: Despite his stubborn refusal to follow Leo's lead being the reason Don Vizioso initially escapes with Shredder's heart, Donnie blames the gangsters and bad luck. Leo isn't having any of it.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Donnie's obsession with bringing Vizioso down allows the Foot to recover Shredder's heart.
- Revenge Before Reason: Donnie wants Don Vizioso to pay for almost killing him previously, to the point where he jeopardizes the mission. He also almost gets killed a couple of times.
- Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: After both the Turtles and the Foot attack him at the restaurant, Don Vizioso makes plans to leave the country, calling an associate for some fake passports.
- Shout-Out: During Kavaxas's clash with the Turtles and their allies, one exchange references the Evil Dead films.
- Kavaxas: (to April) I'll swallow your soul!
Raphael: Swallow this! (rams a pipe into Kavaxas's mouth)
- Sibling Rivalry: Donnie and Leo are at odds in this episode for a while. To the point they get in each other's faces and Karai has to break them up.
- Your Soul Is Mine!: How Kavaksas kills The Hammer, and possibly very nearly did it to Karai had he not been distracted by Donnie having the seal and just threw her to the ground.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Leo calls Donnie out on his behavior the first time they fail to retrieve Shredder's heart.
- You Can't Thwart Stage One: Tiger Claw and Kavaxas get the heart and, with that and the Kabuto, revive Shredder.
