This is the Season 5 premiere of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012).
The Turtles believe they have defeated their old enemies, but soon discover a new evil: Kavaxas, lord of demodragons.
This episode aired March 19, 2017, but will be released on DVD as well.
- Back from the Dead: Tiger Claw's entire goal is to use Kavaxas to revive the Shredder/Oroku Saki.
- Big Red Devil: Kavaxas is a humanoid dragon from Hell.
- Breath Weapon: Much like Maleficent, Kavaxas can breath green flames.
- Demon Lords and Archdevils: Kavaxas bills himself as the "ruler of the Netherworld".
- Dragons Are Demonic: Kavaxas, who begins appearing in the series with this episode, is referred to as a demodragon.
- Dragon-in-Chief: Tiger Claw is only the master of Kavaxas because of his talisman.
- Dragon with an Agenda: Kavaxas only serves Tiger Claw because of the Talisman. He will probably try to dispose of Tiger Claw.
- Enigmatic Minion: Tiger Claw has a small army of strange creatures. http://ifunny.co/fun/zRxqoatf4
- Evil Is Not a Toy: Kavaxas is released unto Earth by Tiger Claw, but Kavaxas attempts to turn on him right away. Tiger Claw uses his talisman to bring Kavaxas under his control.
- Evil Versus Evil: Kavaxas briefly tried to burn Tiger Claw alive but Tiger Claw's magic talisman protected him.
- Evolving Credits: The Opening Credits have changed dramatically to say the least. The theme is now a jazzy instrumental instead of a rap, the visuals have switched to a graphic, limited color style that's a mix of the comic-style panels that end each episode and the opening of a James Bond movie, each turtle's Character Catchphrase plays as they're introduced, and the title is changed to Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
- Flash Step: The Demonic looking Foot Cultists are capable of this.
- Invincible Minor Minion: The strange creatures The Turtles go up against are almost impossible to beat. Mikey punches one in the face, and the creature doesn't react at all. Mikey just ends up with mucus or slime on his fist.
- Raphael even says they're stronger and faster than anything he's ever seen.
- Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The discussion about how Space Heroes: The Next Generation was eventually replaced with a lighter-toned, more kid-oriented series is actually a satire on what's happening to this show, now in its' final season, as it will be replaced with a Lighter and Softer reboot.
- Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Master Splinter could be appearing to Leo from the afterlife, or Leo could just be hallucinating out of grief. Donnie coming and seeing nothing suggest it just a hallucination.
- Mythology Gag: When Donatello researches the Scroll of the Demodragon, he finds a picture of Kavaxas. Though the picture isn't how he actually looks, it bears a striking resemblance to the character Hothead from the original Playmates toyline and the NES version of Tournament Fighters. Michelangelo takes it a step further and outright gives Kavaxas the nickname Hothead.
- Nigh-Invulnerability: The Turtles' weapons and April's powers proved useless against Kavaxas.
- No-Sell: Kavaxas claims immunity to April's powers because he's not of their reality.
- Our Demons Are Different: This episode introduces Kavaxas as a major enemy to the Turtles/Hamato Clan, and he is a powerful demon.
- Our Dragons Are Different: Kavaxas is a demodragon from the pits of Hades.
- Playing with Fire: Kavaxas can breath green fire.
- Religion of Evil: Tiger Claw rebuilt The Foot Clan using strange creatures that don't have a name as of yet. They worship The Shredder and are totally devoted to resurrecting him.
- Sanity Slippage: The death of the Shredder seems to have taken a toll on Tiger Claw's sanity. He resorts to summoning a demon to destroy the Turtles, April and Casey, and bring the Shredder back to life.
- Servile Snarker: Kavaxas makes it quite clear that if Tiger Claw did not have the talisman he would be dead.
- Show Within a Show: Mikey finds VHS tapes of the sequel series of Space Heroes called Space Heroes: The Next Generation.
- It's a parody of Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Captain is a take on Zapp Brannigan from Futurama. He's even worse than the original Space Heroes Captain. He destroys the ship of an alien species because he was bored of them complaining about how high they were being taxed by The Federation. The Lieutenant even protested at first and said they were a peaceful species.
- Donatello and Mikey both chide Leo for liking the show, Donatello even comments that most of the tapes were destroyed because the show was deemed non-suitable for children.
- Spikes of Villainy: Kavaxas has spikes on his shoulders.
- Winged Humanoid: Kavaxas has the classic demon wings on his back.
