Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 S 5 E 16 The Foot Walks Again

Go To

Bebop and Rocksteady steal a microchip for 80's Shredder and Kraang. Meanwhile the Turtles must train their 80's counterparts to stand a chance against their enemies.

  • Bond Villain Stupidity: 80's Shredder and Kraang literally stop everything to gloat and giggle at their captured enemies, even when Bebop points out that the longer they let them live, the longer they'll have to figure out a way to escape. Bebop and Rocksteady grow progressively more frustrated with Shredder and Krang as the episode goes on.
  • The Bus Came Back: First appearance of Karai since When Worlds Collide, excluding the illusion of her during Savanti's Halloween arc.
  • The Cavalry: Shinigami and the new Foot arrive just in time to even the odds against 80's Shredder, his Foot robots, and Bebop and Rocksteady.
  • Combat Pragmatist: When Bebop and Rocksteady are confronted by Slash and Leatherhead, Slash says it should be an even fight. Bebop says "Since when are Bebop and Rocksteady the kind of fools who fight fair?" He then sics the 1987 series foot-bots on Slash and Leatherhead so they can get away and proceed with their mission.
  • Expy Coexistence: Apparently, Space Heroes exists in some form in the 87-Dimension. In the original 1987 cartoon, Star Trek: The Original Series (the series Space Heroes spoofs) is referenced by name many times, meaning Star Trek and Space Heroes both exist in the 87-Dimension.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: If you look closely at Bebop's union card, you can see that Pat Fraley (the voice of '87 Kraang) is Secretary and James Avery (the voice of '87 Shredder) is the President of the Villains Union that Bebop and Rocksteady are members of.
  • Lampshade Hanging:
    • Bebop and Rocksteady lampshade how stupid 80's Shredder and Kraang are, even compared to them, the comic relief duo of the show.
    • The 80's Turtles are amazed to see 2012 Casey and April are teenagers, and admit April's too young to be wearing the iconic sexy jumpsuit that their April wore.
    • The 2012 Turtles also teach the 80's Turtles to actually use their weapons in a fight after lambasting them for not doing so.
  • The Load: Mondo Gecko's status as this among the Mutanimals is lampshaded when Slash and Leatherhead confront Bebop and Rocksteady. Slash declares it's two-on-two, and Mondo declares that he makes three-on-two. Slash and Leatherhead share a look and a forgiving smile, and Slash dryly notes that it's probably going to still be an even-sided match.
  • Weird Trade Union: Bebop and Rocksteady are apparently a part of a Villain's Union that gives them rights as evil henchmen, citing them when they get sick of Shredder and Kraang's constant put-downs.
  • What the Fu Are You Doing?: The 2012 turtles training the 80's turtles is basically this.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Once Bebop and Rocksteady steal the microchip from the EPF, Casey, Karai, Shinigami and by extension, Karai's ninja army no longer show up for the rest of the crossover arc. Although Casey has an excuse due to suffering a broken rib during the fight.
  • The Worf Effect: Even Slash and Leatherhead have a tough time against the better-prepared Bebop and Rocksteady.
  • Took a Level in Badass: 1987 Turtles

Ninja Training

Because the 1987-Turtle's goofy antics don't work in the 2012 Dimension, the 2012-Turtles decide to whip them into shape.

How well does it match the trope?
