The Newtralizer returns, followed by the arrival of Sal Commander and Mona Lisa on Earth.
- Big Bad Duumvirate: Newtralizer and Dregg in the second half of the episode, revealed to be old allies.
- Big "NO!": In the Space Heroes episode that starts the episode, Captain Ryan gives off a classic "NOOOOOO!" when his girlfriend gets swallowed by a tentacle monster.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: Bishop claims that Newtralizer is hunting the Utroms because he was brainwashed by the Kraang.
- The Bus Came Back:
- The Newtralizer returns for the first time since Season 2's "Newtralized", which aired a whopping three years prior to this episode.
- Mona Lisa, Sal Commander, and the Utrom Council return, last seen in Season 4's "The War for Dimension X".
- Renet makes a quick appearance after last appearing in Season 3's "Tale of the Yokai".
- Lord Dregg returns after seemingly being killed in "The Ever-Burning Fire".
- The Turtle Mech, now with Bishop and Mona Lisa piloting the left half, makes a return to storm Dregg's ship before being ripped in half.
- Came Back Strong: The full extent of Newtralizer's powers are revealed, and he's become almost unstoppable. Mikey also undergoes this, attaining much of the same electrical power.
- The Cameo: Renet makes a quick, non-speaking cameo early in the episode.
- Five-Second Foreshadowing: During the random electrical occurrence, Raph spots a pulse going for a slice of pizza, indicating that Mikey is still alive.
- Full-Frontal Assault : Mikey at the end of the episode. Twice.
- Hope Spot: After Mikey is vaporized, Raph nearly takes down Newtralizer, but then Bishop's weapon and everything else in the city experience a complete power outage. Dregg has arrived.
- Hypocritical Humor:
- Raphael is disgusted by his brothers having Ship Tease moments, insisting to Chompy that he's a lone wolf with no need for such nonsense. He does a complete reversal upon getting Mona Lisa's call.
- Karai considers it weird that Raphael is interested in a giant newt. Leonardo lampshades this by talking about weird taste, smirking while giving Karai a nudge.
- I Choose to Stay: Mona Lisa is granted permission by Sal Commander to remain on Earth.
- Klaatu Barada Nikto: The three Utrom soldiers are named after this.
- Last-Second Word Swap: While captured by Dregg's Drones, Karai shouts that she is gonna open up a can of...bug spray.
- Not Quite Dead: Turns out Dregg and Newtralizer aren't that gone after all...
- Not So Above It All:
- Karai calls for a celebration after they defeat Dregg.
- Raph is the one who is engrossed by Space Heroes, which he normally sees as lame.
- Mythology Gag:
- The title is similar to the second half of a major arcnote of the 2003 cartoon in which the Earth was invaded by both the Triceratons and the Federation. Much of the same happens here, this time the two alien threats are Newtralizer and Dregg.
- There's also an obscure one to Dregg's enormous vessel, which is called a 'Maligna Ship', named after Queen Maligna, who was one of the main enemies of the Mighty Mutanimals comic series. This version of Dregg is even a Composite Character of her and the 80's Lord Dregg.
- Ship Tease:
- Raph witnesses the blossoming romances his brothers are taking part in. First he sees April and Donnie playing with each other with popcorn, and the two are too absorbed to even pay attention to the TV or Raph. Then Raph witnesses a training session between Leo and Karai in which Karai flat out says she likes Leo. Raph then learns Mikey and Renet have entered a long distance relationship of sorts.
- When Karai meets Mona Lisa and is surprised that Raph "has the hots for a big newt", Leo playfully nudges her and agrees he has "weird taste" with a knowing grin.
- Shout-Out:
- The final fight with Newtralizer has two; One for The Flash and another for Star Wars.
- The way Mikey got disintegrated and later reassemble himself comes to mind of how Doctor Manhattan was born.
- When Mikey is knocked down by Newtralizer, he teleports back onto his feet and into a fighting pose. Much like Raiden from Mortal Kombat.
- April's go-to means of combating the Newtralizer is by using her telekinesis on water and attacking him with it.
- Shock and Awe: The Newtralizer and later Mikey exhibit these powers.
- Sixth Ranger: Raph suggests that Mona Lisa join up with the Mighty Mutanimals.
- Third Wheel: Observing his brothers spending time with their own love interests, Raph finds he's become this and summarily grouses about love. Mona Lisa's sudden call perks him right up, of course.
- Why Dont You Just Blow Up The Planet: Dregg wants to take his time with expanding his army while Newtralizer would rather blow up Earth just to be rid of the Utroms.
