Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 S 6 E 9 Fly Me To The Moon

Go To

In order to build a temporal controller to send the Turtles back to their own time, Cody explains that they need to build it from a material named donatellium: after the Turtle who founded it sometime in his own future. In order to make the material they must travel to the Moon, but on the way there the Turtles and Cody are attacked by the Inuwashi Gunjin, who have once again been sent after the boy and his friends by Dun.

This episode provides examples of

  • Big Brother Instinct: Raphael chastises the Leader for failing to grasp that, whether on Earth or the Moon, the Turtles will always be protecting Cody from the likes of the Inuwashi Gunjin.
  • Big "NO!": Darius over losing his Elite Mooks.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: "Hi, I'm Raphael! I hate the future!"
  • Chekhov's Gag: Mikey makes himself a ventriloquist dummy resembling Raphael and gladly uses it to annoy him. It's later used to act as a diversion for a sneak attack against the Inuwashi Gunjin.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Darius not only made sure he had the means to keep the Inuwashi Gunjin under control, but he also has a remote on hand to disable Serling should he need to.
  • Exact Words: Thinking them dead, Leonardo hopes the Inuwashi Gunjin have gone to a better place. Seeing they survived and are flying off, Donatello says they're doing just that in a different manner of speaking.
  • The Gadfly: Mikey uses his Raphael puppet to annoy his brother. He also harasses Darius when the group departs for the Moon.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The Inuwashi Gunjin, after observing how honorable the Turtles are, and being reminded of their own species' history
  • Irony: The base the group is going to is located on the shore of the Sea of Tranquility and is named after Bishop. Donatello snarks about "Bishop" and "Tranquility" being in the same sentence together.
  • Last of Their Kind: The Inuwashi Gunjin.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: The Turtles decide to split up into two groups while being tracked by the Inuwashi Gunjin
  • Not Quite Dead: The Inuwashi Gunjin appear to have died while saving the Turtles and Cody, but they emerge from the Moon's surface and head into space.
  • Only Sane Man: After being let out of containment, the other Inuwashi Gunjin vent their frustrations on nearby objects, but the Leader tells them to save their anger for Darius.
  • Percussive Therapy: How Darius Dun eventually manages to access Cody's computer
  • Pet the Dog: The Inuwashi Gunjin help the Turtles get Cody out of the water before he drowns.
  • Proud Warrior Race: The Inuwashi Gunjin
  • Redemption Equals Death: Subverted. The Inuwashi Gunjin stay behind to keep the water back long enough for the Turtles to escape, with the Leader describing it as a display of honor. However, the group survives the experience.
  • "Take That!" Kiss: Done by Michelangelo's puppet to Darius.
  • True Companions: Raphael assures Darius they'll take good care of Cody, saying the kid is practically a brother to the Turtles.
  • Ventriloquism: Michelangelo makes a puppet resembling Raphael. He does a bad job of keeping people from seeing his lips moving, but he does an excellent job of the puppet's true purpose: pissing off Raphael.
  • Villain Respect: The Leader is impressed how the Turtles continue to protect Cody rather than discard a liability.
  • We Need a Distraction:
    • Darius primarily lets the Inuwashi Gunjin out just to keep the Turtles and Cody busy long enough for him to steal the Time Window specs, though he's absolutely fine with them never coming back at all.
    • Michelangelo makes "a colossal sacrifice" by using his Raphael puppet to distract the Inuwashi Gunjin long enough for an ambush.
  • Worth It: Ultimately, Darius can accept losing the Inuwashi Gunjin since he still obtained the Time Window's plans.
