Go To

Raphael is frustrated that his brothers want to stay in the penthouse rather than explore the city, so when he sees an advert for a Galactic Wrestling Match he's excited to go. With Leo in tow to make sure he doesn't get into trouble, Raph heads out to the match, only to find professional wrestling has changed a lot in the last 100 years. But when a disgraced former wrestler shows up seeking revenge Raph gets a little more action than he'd bargained for.

First appearance of Triple Threat

This episode provides examples of

  • Big Brother Instinct: When Raph decides to go to the wrestling match alone, Splinter asks one of his brothers to accompany him, to keep him out of trouble. Leo decides to go, when Don and Mike make excuses.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Triple Threat's yellow-hued head.
  • Food as Bribe: Neither Leo, nor Don are willing to accompany Raph to the Wrestling match. Raph turns to Mike, who initially declines, but agrees as soon as Raph mentions hot dogs, greasy cheese nachos and root beer. Unfortunately, Cody distracts Helix, a futuristic video game, derailing the plan.
  • Honor Before Reason: When Raph fights Triple Threat in the ring, he initially refuses to use his sais because "only bad guys cheat in wrestling". When he realizes Triple Threat isn't playing by the rules, however, he decides it's time to get out his weapons.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Raphael wants to explore the city in the future. When Splinter tries offering words of wisdom, Raphael points out that unlike in the present they can walk in broad daylight without being treated as freaks. Splinter has no rebuttal.
  • Monowheel Mayhem: Triple Threat drives a wheel shaped vehicle.
  • Multiple Head Case: Triple Threat.
  • Not So Above It All: After spending most of the show warning Mike to not say Cowabunga, guess what Raph says during his rematch against Tripe Threat:
Triple Threat Red: Next time you're down, stay down!
Raph: I'm not through with you, head case. COWABUNGA!
  • Only Sane Man: Leonardo proves this when Triple Threat shows up. Unlike Raphael, he realizes that Triple Threat isn't acting, and suggests using his sais when fighting him.
  • Pro Wrestling Is Real: In 2105, pro wrestling has become a legit sport. However, being from the past, Raphael is unaware of this and treats it like it's all a show, at least until he gets his shell kicked by a disgruntled wrestler.
  • Running Gag: The announcer mis-labelling the turtles as other reptile or amphibian species.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Raphael sees Triple Threat enter the ring, then very clearly assault both of the wrestlers and the crowd runs away scared. But he thinks it's just part of the act and actually gets in the ring when Triple Threat dares him to. He is subjected to a beating for his stupidity.

Triple Threat

From the episode "Headlock Prime", the three-head wrestler Triple Threat provides a more literal example of a wrestling monster. During his original tenure in the Galactic Wrestling Federation's Slam-A-Thon, he was infamously known to be a huge and aggressive fighter among the rest.
