"He read my blueprints?!?! MY PRIVATE BLUEPRINTS?!?!!"
Cyborg

Aqualad recruits the Titans to help him stop Brother Blood, who is planning to destroy the city with a tidal wave using a weapon based on Cyborg's technology.

Tropes:

  • Academy of Evil: H.I.V.E. Headquarters.
  • 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: The shot of the force-field shutting down is CG.
  • Continuity Nod: Cyborg was Bumblebee's date for the High-School Dance mentioned in "Deception". Turns out it was a Sadie Hawkins dance.
  • Fate Worse than Death: What Raven obviously considers another trip inside whale BB's mouth.
Raven: I'd really rather just stay here and drown.
  • Fake-Out Opening: The episode starts off with Aqualad breaking into Titans Tower and confronting the Titans, with the implication being he's come to fight. He actually just wants the team's assistance.
  • Heroic Willpower: Apparently, the only reason Bumblebee can't be brainwashed by Brother Blood. In later episodes, it's clarified that she's not completely immune, just able to resist it.
"There's not a man alive who can tell me what to do."
  • Irony Before she and Cyborg fight, Brother Blood mentions how Bumblebee wasn’t a spy back at H.I.V.E. Academy, but then Bumblebee reveals to Cyborg that she was a spy.
  • It's Personal:
    • Just having access to Cyborg's technical data pushes the man's Berserk Button, much less using the Sonic Cannon plans to build a Doomsday Device.
    • It turns out that Blood has a grudge with Cyborg for destroying Hive HQ.
  • The Mole: Blood is less than pleased in discovering that Cyborg wasn't the only one who infiltrated his HQ, when Bumblebee eventually reveals she was also a spy.
Brother Blood: Another spy? Tell me, was anyone at my school actually there to learn?!
    Bumblebee: I've learned plenty!
  • Noodle Incident: We never do find out what happened at the Sadie Hawkins Dance to make Bumblebee tell Cyborg, "You're gonna pay for that!"
  • Not Hyperbole: Raven declares she'd rather drown than take another ride in whale form Beast Boy's mouth. Indeed, she seems intent on staying put in the rising water until she's dragged away.
  • Sequel Episode: Follows up from "Deception".
  • Sequel Hook: Bumblebee and Aqualad team up and Cyborg suggests to himself it might be time for him to leave, setting the stage for the "Titans East" two-parter.
  • Ship Tease: Bumblebee had asked Cyborg/Stone to the Sadie Hawkins Dance in "Deception", she gave him the Affectionate Nickname "Sparky", and she was interested in him enough to read some of his data files about his crush on Jinx. It's also hinted that Cyborg might want to leave the Titans to be on Bumblebee's team.
  • Swallowed Whole: When the T Sub is destroyed, Beast Boy quickly saves everyone by turning into a whale and swallowing them ala Jonah. They are not pleased to have to do so again at the end of the episode.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: As soon as Cyborg disables Blood's Doomsday Device, he proceeds to book it.
Brother Blood: (seething) That's two headquarters you owe me.

Would Rather Drown

The Teen Titans' submarine is broken, but they need to escape a collapsing underwater lair. Beast Boy offers to transform into whale and carry the team out in his mouth, which most of the team accepts. Raven, having been subjected to both drowning and the inside of Beast Boy's mouth, says she'd rather drown. When the rest of the team leaves, she stays as if fully intent on doing just that, until Starfire pulls her to safety.

How well does it match the trope?
