Recap / Teen Titans Go S 1 E 01 Legendary Sandwich

Go To

Wanting to get rid of the other Titans for a while so she can watch her favorite show in peace, Raven sends the other Titans out to collect the ingredients of a legendary sandwich that holds the secret of eternal life. Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Starfire have to face the perilous sandwich guardians, while Robin must brave the dangers of... the supermarket.

Tropes in this Episode Include

  • An Arm and a Leg: Cyborg gets his right arm ripped off by the sandwich guardian.
  • Circling Birdies: After the sandwich guardian tosses Starfire into a rock, she has Silkies floating around her head.
  • Closet Geek: Raven goes to absurd lengths, including sending the Titans (except Robin) on life-threatening quests just so she can watch her favorite show, Pretty Pretty Pegasus, without getting caught.
  • Doomed Supermarket Display: At the Supermarket, Robin ends up taking down a display of "Bat-Os."
  • Flat Joy: Robin has this when he finally gets the pretzel bread at the supermarket.
  • Fridge Logic: In-Universe, while Starfire hunts for the Legendary Tomato, she wonders how an Earth fruit was transported to a faraway galaxy.
  • Head Desk: Robin smacks his head on a wall in boredom during his time waiting for his order.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: How Cyborg finishes off his sandwich guardian.
  • More Dakka: Cyborg unleashes a laser chaingun on his sandwich guardian during the fight.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Making a sandwich becomes an epic quest for the Titans... except Robin.
  • Nobody Touches the Hair: Starfire gets most of her hair sliced off by her sandwich guardian's sword, which only serves to piss her off.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Robin asks "Who wants to watch some Pretty Pretty Pegasus?" at the end of the episode.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: After all the trouble the Titans went through to get the Legendary Sandwich ingredients, Silkie eats it, then vomits it up. In a sense, it's also a Shaggy Dog Story for Raven, since all her efforts to get the Titans out of the house so she could watch Pretty Pretty Pegasus were unnecessary since Robin was perfectly willing to watch the show.
  • Shopping Cart Antics: During the Time-Passes Montage, Robin rides a shopping cart around the market.
  • Take a Number: At the supermarket, Robin's number is 78. At the time of his arrival, they are serving 23.
  • Time-Passes Montage: Robin's scenes in the supermarket consist of showing the things he's doing while waiting for his number to come up.
  • The Tooth Hurts: Beast Boy shatters most of his teeth biting his sandwich guardian while as a crocodile.
  • Victimized Bystander: An old man gets run over by Robin when he loses control of his shopping cart.
  • You, Get Me Coffee: Instead of getting sent on an exciting quest like the others, Robin has to go to an ordinary supermarket and buy pretzel bread.
