Recap / Supernanny USS 7 EP 3

Go To

The third episode of the seventh season of the US version of Supernanny.

Jo visits Sacremento, California, where she meets Tony and Jenny Swift. Tony and Jenny have four sons; 11-year-old Jack, 10-year-old Josh, 7-year-old Sean and 4-year-old Max, and one daughter: 9-month-old Mia. Tony and Jenny enlist the help of Gloria, Jenny's 69-year-old grandmother and a 22-year-old nanny named Kadie, who herself enlists Jo's help as she's concerned for the children's safety, especially Mia's. Since Mia has started crawling, she's in danger of pulling electrical cords and getting a hold of small objects that could choke her if she put them in her mouth. The older boys do dangerous things like play around a swimming pool with no fence and ride bikes without helmets. Can Jo get Tony and Jenny to pull their weight and keep their children safe?

This episode provides examples of:

  • Alliterative Name: The third-born's son's name is Sean Swift.
  • Cool Old Lady: 69-year-old Gloria helps Tony and Jenny with taking care of their children, to the point where Kadie admits in the submission reel that Gloria is more of a parent than Tony and Jenny are. She's also actively fit for her age and is able to throw dodgeballs.
  • The Diaper Change: At one point, Kadie changes Mia's diaper. As this happens, Sean and Max fight each other, knowing that Kadie will be too occupied with changing Mia's diaper to stop them.
  • Groin Attack: When Sean and Max fight each other during Mia's diaper change, Sean kicks Max in the privates.
  • Lethal Negligence: Because of how little time Tony and Jenny spend with their children, they end up endangering them, and Kadie, who is concerned for their safety, enlists Jo's help with keeping them safe. Mia has started crawling, and is in danger of pulling electrical cords and getting a hold of small objects that could choke her if she put them in her mouth. Kadie and Gloria both tell Tony and Jenny this, but they don't listen to them. The older boys also do such dangerous things like play around a swimming pool with no fence and ride bikes without helmets, and when Jo takes notice, she starts enforcing some safety rules and getting the Swift family to baby-proof their house.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: Tony and Jenny have four sons and one daughter.
  • Odd Name Out: The names of the five children are Jack, Josh, Max, Mia, and... Sean. However, Sean gets points because Sean Swift is an Alliterative Name.
  • Parental Neglect: Tony and Jenny are so lazy that they rely on Kadie and Gloria to look after their children so they don't have to. They also have the nerve to tell Jo that Kadie and Gloria don't do enough, something Jo is quick to call them out on even before the parents' meeting. Jenny also expects Sean, her seven-year-old son, to look after nine-month old Mia while she takes Max to the bathroom at the grocery store.
  • Parental Substitute: Both Gloria and Kadie serve as this to Tony and Jenny's children. They're the ones who show concern over the children's safety, especially baby Mia's, particularly because of how lazy Tony and Jenny are. Kadie in particular enlists Jo's help for this reason.
  • Time Out: When Jo gets Tony and Jenny to start implementing discipline, she has them put Max in time-out when they get home from Goore's for not listening to them and holding onto the cart as they shopped for baby-proof items.
